Summary: In recent years, policymakers have shown increasing attention to agricultural policies, with the Common Agricultural Policy being a major initiative of the European Commission to enhance the agricultural sector. Despite the fragmentation in the scientific debate caused by academics with different backgrounds, research continues to actively evaluate the public investments made by the European Commission. The study reveals the presence of three independent and complementary research clusters in the field of the Common Agricultural Policy.

Summary: This comment responds to the claim that sustainability science, as a research community, has leaned to the left in a problematic manner. The comment questions the examples provided and argues for caution in making such judgments. It suggests that the seemingly left-leaning positions may have scientific reasons rather than purely political or ideological ones. The authors also emphasize the importance of considering social theorists' insights for open and reflexive debate in the field.

Summary: This article proposes a method for measuring entrepreneurship in agricultural entities based on modern approaches, utilizing a modified TOPSIS method with 12 specific criteria. The model was tested in livestock farms in Lithuania and confirmed its applicability in ranking agricultural businesses according to their level of entrepreneurship.

Summary: This study assesses the impact of European Union support on fire prevalence in Portugal. The research finds that support is concentrated in wealthier agricultural regions, while poorer regions with larger forest areas receive little support. There is no correlation between EU support for forests and the prevalence of fires. To reduce fire risk, active management of forest areas and a review of support distribution are needed.

Summary: The global climate policy agenda requires a rapid transition to a low-carbon mode, but progress has been slow. One significant issue is that current policy appraisal frameworks fail to adequately consider the dynamics of societal and technological change, leading to underestimated risks and unassessed economic opportunities.

Summary: The challenge of dynamically inconsistent preferences is common in politics, where policy adjustments are often costly and unpopular for the future health of a country or the world. Automatic policy adjustments and delegation to an independent authority are proposed solutions to this problem. In the realm of climate mitigation, a combination of automaticity and delegation offers promise for policymakers seeking enduring solutions to climate change.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of social networks and the scarcity of common resources on norm-complying behavior that promotes cooperation. The findings suggest that the stability of cooperation requires high coordination costs among those who comply with the social norm. While social networks can enhance cooperation, their influence is limited. Informal enforcement policies can reduce the minimum share of compliant agents for achieving cooperation by up to 26%, but combinations of different policies should be applied cautiously to avoid cancelation. The paper highlights the importance of understanding these factors in designing effective policies for cooperation.

Summary: Agri-environmental policies in Europe need improvement in order to address environmental degradation, biodiversity decline, climate impacts, and sustainability. Using social valuation tools, this study explores the relationship between agricultural practices and the provision of ecosystem services in mountainous areas of Europe. Through case studies in the Mediterranean and Nordic regions, the effectiveness of different agricultural practices in achieving environmental outcomes under various policy scenarios is analyzed. Results suggest the need for regional research and policy design, and identify grazing and silviculture practices as significant for ecosystem service delivery. The study provides guidance for designing agri-environmental policies that reward farmers for sustainable management of natural resources, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity conservation.

Summary: Political discourse is crucial for democracy, but misunderstandings and conflicts can arise. The shift to online discourse has worsened these issues, undermining the ability of diverse societies to collaborate in solving social problems. Scholars and civil society groups have proposed interventions to reduce divisiveness and increase productivity, but this poses challenges for online discourse. We conducted a large-scale experiment that demonstrates how AI tools can improve online conversations about divisive topics. By using a large language model, we provide evidence-based recommendations in real-time to enhance participants' perception of being understood. These interventions improve conversation quality, promote democratic reciprocity, and improve the tone, while not altering the conversation's content or people's policy attitudes.

Summary: This study adopts an alternative method to analyze the impact of CAP on farms' productivity in the EU agricultural sector. The results show that land, labour, and capital in EU farms are complementary production factors with slow growth or stagnation in technical change. The study also finds that the impact of CAP subsidies on farms' technical change varies, with higher amounts of decoupled subsidies, investment, and LFA subsidies having a positive impact, while a larger share of subsidies in total agricultural income leads to a stronger negative impact of the CAP on agricultural technical change.

Summary: This article critiques the international socialisation narrative's representation of compliance as socialisation and limited recognition of agency. The example of EU member states from Central Europe shows that they internalized norms before compliance, challenging the idea of (under)socialisation as an issue. Non-compliance in CE countries was not about rejecting norms but rather hypersensitivity towards specific norms and rules, leading to identity reinforcement and stigma within the EU and CE.

Summary: The article investigates the impact of the EU's response to the COVID-19 pandemic on the European Green Deal, focusing on changes in policy instruments, governance principles, and policy goals. It analyzes the extent of these changes and regional variations among EU Member States, as well as the Commission's role in promoting energy policy choices and Member States' ambitions. The article finds that the COVID-19 crisis provided an opportunity to accelerate the green transition, but biodiversity integration is still lacking.

Summary: This article focuses on the rise of populism and Euroscepticism in the context of the crisis of liberal internationalism and the EU. It argues that the weak integration of Slovenian-EU politics makes the country vulnerable to this trend. The article examines different variations of populism and draws on various sources such as public opinion surveys, party manifestos, and interviews with mediators to analyze the impact of EU politics in Slovenia.

Summary: This article argues that in Central and Eastern European countries, where the traditional bioeconomy sectors are more important, 'early' transition pathways such as the DUI model and the STI model are equally important. The findings are relevant to policy as the current EU bioeconomy policy may not be suitable for the specific needs of CEE countries.
