To characterise MRI features of invasive placenta previa and to identify specific features for differentiating placenta percreta (PP) from placenta accreta (PA). Forty-five women with PP and 93 women with PA who underwent 1.5T placental MRI were included. Two radiologists independently evaluated the MRI features of invasive placenta previa, including our novel type of placental bulge (i.e. placental bulge type-II, characterized by placental bulge with distorted uterine outline). Pearson's chi-squared or Fisher's two-sided exact test was performed to compare the MRI features between PP and PA. Logistic stepwise regression analysis and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were performed to select the optimal features for differentiating PP from PA. Significant differences were found in nine MRI features between women with PP and those with PA (P < 0.05). Placental bulge type-II and uterine serosal hypervascularity were independently associated with PP (odds ratio = 48.618, P < 0.001; odds ratio = 4.165, P = 0.018 respectively), and the combination of the two MRI features to distinguish PP from PA yielded an AUC of 0.92 for its predictive performance. Placental bulge type-II and uterine serosal hypervascularity are useful MRI features for differentiating PP from PA.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamic changes of APT imaging before and after irradiation in NPC mouse models. Results showed that high-dose irradiation led to a significant decrease in tumor APT values, accompanied by necrosis and apoptosis, while low-dose irradiation showed a slight decrease in APT values. APT imaging has the potential to serve as a reliable biomarker for response assessment in NPC.

Summary: Ferroptosis is a promising approach for cancer therapy, but its efficacy is compromised by ROS production efficiency and tumor cell antioxidant microenvironment. In this study, a nanomedicine was developed to amplify ferroptosis sensitivity by controlling redox homeostasis. The nanomedicine combines a ferroptosis inducer and an antioxidant inhibitor, and it showed enhanced therapeutic efficacy in tumor therapy.

A hydrogel-enabled cascade amplification of radiosensitization and immune activation for cancer radiotherapy

Summary: Hypofractionated radiotherapy (HRT) is hindered by radio-resistance and inadequate immune activation. Researchers developed an injectable hydrogel platform that enables a cascade amplification of radiosensitization and immune activation to potentiate HRT. The hydrogel releases L-norvaline to spare L-arginine for radiosensitizer nitric oxide (NO) production and uses TLR7/8 agonist to repolarize tumor-associated macrophages, disrupting radio-resistance and immunosuppression. This hydrogel is a promising approach for enhancing HRT and inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis.
