Summary: Recent data suggest that social determinants of health play a significant role in the prevention and treatment outcomes of cardiovascular diseases. This study found that residing in the most deprived neighborhoods was associated with a higher likelihood of undergoing repair for abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture before the age of 65, but a lower likelihood of undergoing endovascular aortic repair.

Summary: This study successfully increased screening uptake by contacting male patients who failed to attend abdominal aortic aneurysm screening and implementing suggested improvements. Results showed that external factors such as social deprivation influence screening uptake and AAAs are more prevalent in socially deprived groups.

Summary: This study explores the differences in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and associated factors among South Asian, Black, and White individuals. The results suggest that adiposity is an important risk factor for CVD regardless of ethnicity. Targeting interventions based on different risk profiles may be the most effective approach to address ethnic inequalities in CVD incidence.

Summary: This study quantified and analyzed the risk of AAA hospitalization in different age, sex, and race groups in the United States using National Inpatient Sample and US Census data. The results showed a significantly lower rate of AAA hospitalization in females and racial minority groups, but aging and comorbid peripheral vascular disease decreased these differences. The findings highlight the importance of inclusivity in future AAA studies.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that socioeconomic disparities affect the severity and management of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) disease. This study examines the impact of the area deprivation index (ADI), a measure of neighborhood deprivation, on AAA severity and management.

Summary: The study examined the referral and treatment outcomes of men in the NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme, revealing a low rate of refusal for treatment and significant regional variation in the proportion undergoing endovascular repair. Surgical interventions were consistently carried out with low peri-operative mortality rates.

Summary: The study suggests that men attending AAA screening and found to have abnormal aortic diameter are at high risk of future cardiovascular events, regardless of whether they have abdominal aortic aneurysm. This underutilized data from AAA screening programs has the potential to improve preventative management of cardiovascular risk.

Summary: An individual socioeconomic status index (ISESI) was constructed and validated using data from the Population Information System of the Region of Valencia, Spain. The index was used to analyze inequalities in a colorectal cancer screening program. The study found that socioeconomic status was an important factor influencing participation in the screening program.

Summary: Since 2005, the United States Preventative Services Task Force has recommended AAA ultrasound screening for 65-to 75-year-old male ever-smokers. Compliance rates in integrated health systems are higher than in the private sector.

Summary: This study analyzed data from a large-scale AAA screening program in the United States and found that male gender, smoking, cardiac disease, family history, and advancing age are high-risk factors for AAA. Current smoking status was the most significant risk factor.

Summary: Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a life-threatening disease with a frequency of 2.2%, mainly found in older males with certain cardiovascular risk factors. Patients with aneurysm show specific cardiac and arterial characteristics. Screening individuals over 60 years old undergoing transthoracic echocardiography may be beneficial in detecting asymptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Summary: The prevalence of screening-detected AAA has declined over the years in men with vascular disease but remains higher than established screening programs targeting 65-year-old men. Patients with screening-detected AAA have a lower probability of survival and a significant proportion undergo AAA-related surgery during follow-up.

Summary: Thoracoabdominal aortic disease is a rare but life-threatening condition that requires expert multidisciplinary collaborative management. Both open repair and endovascular approaches are viable options for repair, but specialized expertise is necessary for successful outcomes.

Summary: This article mainly introduces the rare but life-threatening complication of aortic pseudoaneurysm after cardiac surgery, which may be caused by suture dehiscence, iatrogenic trauma, and poor quality of aortic tissues. Most cases are diagnosed within the first few months after surgery and are caused by an infectious process. This article reports a case of transsternal aortic pseudoaneurysm after aortic valve replacement surgery and describes the surgical approach. This case is exceptional for its late timing and presentation with a pulsatile sternal mass.
