Summary: A rapid and straightforward analytical method was established to identify the chemical constituents of Wangbi Capsule, a compound preparation widely used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The method successfully identified 140 compounds in the capsule, including nucleosides, alkaloids, organic acids, flavonoids, and other chemical components. This method has potential significance for characterizing other Chinese medicine components and lays the foundation for further pharmacological and in vivo studies of Wangbi Capsules.

Summary: Phototrophic biofilms play a crucial role in shaping the molecular composition and accumulation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in periodically flooding-drying soils. They increase the abundance of labile DOM compounds and richness of molecular formulae during growth, while decreasing the relative abundance of labile components during decomposition. These findings provide insights into the potential use of phototrophic biofilms for enhancing DOM bioactivity and soil fertility in agricultural settings.

Summary: Air pollution from anthropogenic emissions and wildfire events poses a threat to Lake Baikal. Chemical analysis and mass spectrometry techniques revealed the presence of heavily oxidized species containing nitrogen and sulfur, which are associated with light absorption. Both positive and negative ionization modes provided complementary molecular information about organic aerosols. The similarity of oxidized organic aerosols at different sampling sites indicates strong atmospheric aging and mixing.

Summary: Measurement of collision cross section (CCS) is a parameter reflecting the size and shape of an ion and provides structural information beyond molecular mass alone. Previously, isolation of individual charge states was required for CCS analysis, limiting throughput. In this study, CCSs were determined from commonly available mass spectra files using an Orbitrap mass spectrometer, allowing for simultaneous estimation of CCS for multiple charge states and expanding the applicability of this method.

Summary: Pore water samples from Haima cold seeps sediments and non-seep reference sediments in the northern South China Sea were analyzed. The results showed that the seep sediments had higher abundance of labile DOM, indicated by protein-like DOM, H/Cwa, and MLBL%. The presence of sulfidic environment in the seep sediments led to increased S-containing formulas and biotic sulfurization, which increased DOM lability.

Summary: This study used Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry to investigate the molecular characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in groundwater from reclaimed water and natural water recharge areas. The results showed that the groundwater from reclaimed water areas had fewer nitrogenous compounds, more sulfur-containing compounds, higher concentrations of nitrate-nitrogen, and lower pH than the groundwater from natural water recharge areas. This study also found that the intensities of common molecules in all samples were significantly correlated with water quality and fluorescent indicators, suggesting their potential for tracking the environmental impact of anthropogenic groundwater recharge.

Summary: The trophic state of lakes has a significant impact on the properties and concentration of dissolved organic matter (DOM). DOM in eutrophic lakes is more biologically refractory and contains compounds that are harmful to the environment. The molecular composition of DOM is positively correlated with the trophic state index. Additionally, the molecular lability of DOM varies with the season and phytoplankton community succession.

Summary: In this study, the performance of direct introduction electrospray ionization (ESI) and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) coupled with Fourier-Transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR MS) for analyzing root exudates (RE) was systematically evaluated. MALDI showed better salt tolerance and ionization efficiency at high salinity, making it suitable for analyzing metabolites in complex matrices. The study also demonstrated the complementarity of the two ionization sources and the advantage of MALDI in detecting metabolites suffering from matrix effects in ESI mode.

Summary: A method combining high-performance liquid chromatography and Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry was developed for quality control of Semen Hoveniae. Establishment of chromatographic fingerprint and identification of qualitative markers were achieved through chemometric methods. Dihydromyricetin and dihydroquercetin were found to be the main qualitative markers indicating the quality difference in Semen Hoveniae, with variances in content observed among different batch samples.
