Summary: The study demonstrated the successful use of NIR spectroscopy coupled with MCR-ALS for the simultaneous identification and quantification of four common adulterants in saffron samples. The results showed the feasibility and effectiveness of this approach in complex mixtures and at low levels. It was the first time that NIR spectroscopy and MCR-ALS were used together to identify and quantify multiple adulterants in saffron samples.

Summary: This study focused on the application of vibrational spectroscopic techniques for the analysis of adulterants in peanut oil. The qualitative analysis showed that MCR-ALS accurately identified all adulterants, while the quantitative analysis demonstrated the effectiveness of both MCR-ALS and PLS in quantifying the adulterants, confirming the feasibility of using these methods in peanut oil.

Summary: This paper describes the use of X-ray fluorescence scanning, microanalysis, and confocal XRF for identification of toxic elements in a sample taken from a historic wall in Czech Republic. The focus is on confocal XRF imaging, which allows non-destructive visualization of a selected part of the sample. A proposed method to reduce X-ray absorption in the sample improves the determination of arsenic depth distribution.

Summary: The Madonna with Child by Andrea Mantegna, owned by the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan, is a canvas painting created using an unusual distemper technique. The use of the MA-XRF spectrometer revealed that the restoration work by Giuseppe Molteni completely covered the original layer, including the mantle of the Virgin, and made significant changes to the painting's appearance. The results also provided guidance for conservation works and led to the decision to remove the varnish and Molteni's version to reveal the original Mantegna.

Summary: This study identified novel subtypes and the spread of tmexCD-toprJ gene clusters. The research revealed that these gene clusters are mainly distributed in Pseudomonas spp. and Klebsiella spp. and can be transferred between Enterobacterales through plasmids.

Summary: The innovative approach of using a handheld XRF device for non-destructively extracting quantitative elemental data from herbarium specimens has led to the discovery of numerous hyperaccumulator plants. Scanning mu-XRF analysis of herbarium specimens can provide insights into the true representation of abnormal concentrations of elements as hyperaccumulation and reveal patterns of elemental distribution for further studies.

Summary: Traditional Serbian religious art has undergone changes in icon painting techniques and materials, with a focus on the blue pigments used in the 18th century. Analysis revealed the use of pigments such as azurite, indigo-organic colorants, and Prussian blue, contradicting the belief that natural ultramarine blue was used. This research sheds light on the historical influences and development of icon painters' practices.

Summary: Handheld near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy was used to measure the cut face of a fresh baguette over time, and the critical factors in the staling process were identified as amylopectin crystallization and water content decrease. Two-Dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy (2D-COS) was applied to monitor the sequence of these changes, and the spectra were split into two sets based on different aging time intervals. Multivariate Curve Resolution-Alternating Least Squares (MCR-ALS) was used to investigate the changes in the spectra profile as a function of aging time.

Summary: The study successfully quantified the constituent monomers of pheomelanin using Raman spectroscopy combined with chemometrics. The MCR-ALS method was effective in predicting the concentrations of BT and BZ, as well as extracting interference from keratin in feathers. This method provides a direct and non-destructive analytical approach for pheomelanin subunits at the monomeric level.

Summary: A new UV spectroscopic method using PARAFAC and MCR-ALS was developed in this study for the rapid determination of pKa values of benzoic acid and its derivatives without the need for traditional titration. These methods provide a simple and fast way to determine the pKa values of relevant compounds.

Summary: This study quantified ciprofloxacin in commercial tablets using FT-NIR and chemometric models. Matrix variation caused by different excipient compositions could affect accuracy. Single models combining data from multiple sets were developed to address matrix variation. PLS and MCR-ALS models showed promising results but were still influenced by the presence of different excipients.
