Summary: This study aims to examine the independent contributions of the Vestibular/Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) to concussion symptom severity in youths. The findings suggest that VOMS items, particularly vertical saccades and vertical vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), significantly contribute to acute concussion symptom severity in youths.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive utility of VOMS in identifying concussions among collegiate athletes and found that symptom scores for each VOMS item and overall VOMS score were effective in discriminating between concussed individuals and healthy controls, with vertical saccades and horizontal vestibular/ocular reflexes being the most effective distinguishing factors.

Summary: This article reviews the use of virtual reality in the rehabilitation of vestibular and balance impairments post-concussion. The findings suggest that virtual reality is an effective tool for this purpose, although the current literature lacks high-quality evidence and further research is needed to establish quantitative standards and determine appropriate dosage of virtual reality intervention.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the causes of dizziness and imbalance in the pediatric population are diverse, with many patients having multiple diagnoses that are often interrelated. It is important for providers to recognize that vestibular symptoms in children and adolescents may have multifactorial causes spanning across multiple specialties.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the reliability of the VOMS in healthy, uninjured USASOC personnel and found that VOMS demonstrated excellent internal consistency and moderate-to-good test-retest reliability. In contrast, mBESS showed poor internal consistency and poor-to-moderate test-retest reliability. The results suggest that VOMS is a reliable addition to the MACE-2, while mBESS single-leg stance is less reliable in this population.

Summary: The study evaluated subclinical cervical abnormalities in the vestibulospinal pathway in subjects with history of concussion, finding higher latency scores in groups with history and symptoms of concussion. Abnormal cVEMP patterns were found in groups with history or symptoms of concussion, supporting the positive impact of cVEMP in evaluating athletes for concussion processes.

Summary: The study found that the majority of healthy male youth hockey players performed within normal limits on the VOMS test, with low abnormality rates. Factors such as age, headache/migraine history, previous neurodevelopmental conditions, or mental health problems were not associated with clinically meaningful symptom provocation during the VOMS.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the prognostic ability of vestibular/ocular motor screening (VOMS), King-Devick (K-D) Test, and C3 Logix Trails A and B in identifying the recovery time from sports-related concussions (SRC) in patients aged 8 to 12 years. The study found that the VOMS was associated with overall recovery time and proved to be a useful test in identifying patients with a normal recovery time. Combining all four tests improved the accuracy of predicting protracted versus normal recovery.

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness of vestibular rehabilitation therapy with and without ABF in improving balance in people with chronic mTBI. Both groups showed improvements in PCSS and SOT scores, with the ABF group demonstrating better results in increasing motor activation and decreasing time delay. This suggests that incorporating motor activation factors in vestibular rehabilitation, possibly with ABF, may lead to more comprehensive assessment of recovery and improved outcomes.

Summary: This study investigates the alterations in resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) brain connectivity in patients with postconcussion vestibular dysfunction (PCVD) and their correlations with symptoms provoked during Vestibular/Ocular-Motor Screening (VOMS) assessment. The findings suggest that increased connectivity of visual input, multisensory processing, and spatial memory in PCVD patients correlates with clinical symptom severity, indicating maladaptive brain plasticity underlying vestibular symptomatology.

Summary: This study found no significant differences in vestibular, oculomotor, and balance measures between children with concussion and those without, suggesting these measures may not be useful in evaluating concussed children with vestibular and/or ocular symptoms. Future research should focus on age effects and other tests to identify more relevant objective findings.

Summary: This study identified the minimum detectable change (MDC) for individual Vestibular-Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) items and VOMS overall score in 17-25 years old collegiate athletes, using both total and change scoring methods. MDC values ranged from 1 to 10 for different VOMS items and overall scores, with false positive rates between 5.3% and 15.9%.
