Deformation of hexagonal close packed (HCP) metals is accompanied by the development of a strong texture, which depends on the predominant deformation mechanism of the metal and the deformation path. This study investigates texture rotations in HCP deforming by basal < a >, prismatic < a >, pyramidal < a > or pyramidal < c + a > slip. This study uses crystal plasticity models to simulate the development of tension, compression and plane strain deformation textures. Basal slip causes rotation of the < c > axis toward the compression direction, as well as pyramidal < a > slip, whereas pyramidal < c + a > slip makes the < c > axis rotate toward the extension direction. Prismatic slip generates a rotation of the lattice around its < c > axis, but the hci axis position does not change; however a prismatic plane rotates toward the extension direction. The development of textures in constrained crystals deforming with multiple slip modes is compared with the effect of the dominant slip system activity. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
