Summary: The Cameroon arm of the 2019 MMM campaign screened a total of 30,187 adults, with 20.8% found to have hypertension and only 11.2% of those individuals having controlled blood pressure. Significant predictors of systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels included age, sex, use of antihypertensive medications, previous diagnosis of hypertension, and history of stroke. Blood pressure measurements were significantly higher in public outdoor settings, public indoor settings (for diastolic blood pressure only), workplaces, and other unspecified areas compared to hospital/clinic settings. Overall, despite limitations of non-random sample selection, the opportunistic screening provided valuable insights into hypertension awareness and screening outside of traditional healthcare settings.

High blood pressure screening in pharmacies during May Measurement Month campaigns in Switzerland

Summary: The analysis of Swiss data from the MMM17 to MMM19 campaigns aimed to evaluate the results obtained in pharmacies over a 3-year period. The study found that the screening campaigns in pharmacies mainly recruited women and helped in detecting untreated and uncontrolled hypertensive participants. It is suggested that when measuring blood pressure in pharmacies, the average blood pressure should be calculated based on the second and third measurements due to a significant first measure effect.
