The Australian Dark Energy Survey (OzDES) is a 100-night spectroscopic survey underway on the Anglo-Australian Telescope using the fibre-fed 2-degree-field (2dF) spectrograph. We have developed a new redshifting application MARZ with greater usability, flexibility, and the capacity to analyse a wider range of object types than the RUNZ software package previously used for redshifting spectra from 2dF. MARZ is an open-source, client-based, Javascript web-application which provides an intuitive interface and powerful automatic matching capabilities on spectra generated from the AAOmega spectrograph to produce high quality spectroscopic redshift measurements. The software can be run interactively or via the command line, and is easily adaptable to other instruments and pipelines if conforming to the current FITS file standard is not possible. Behind the scenes, a modified version of the AUTOZ cross-correlation algorithm is used to match input spectra against a variety of stellar and galaxy templates, and automatic matching performance for OzDES spectra has increased from 54% (RUNZ) to 91% (MARZ). Spectra not matched correctly by the automatic algorithm can be easily redshifted manually by cycling automatic results, manual template comparison, or marking spectral features. Summary: Cosmological analyses of supernova samples need to consider contamination from different types of supernovae. By analyzing the Dark Energy Survey supernova sample, it is found that the contamination from non-Ia supernovae is between 0.8% and 3.5%, with a classification efficiency of 97.7% to 99.5%. The biases on the dark energy equation-of-state, w, are less than 0.008.

Summary: Gravitational time delays provide an independent measurement method for H-0, and the key is to have high-accuracy lens models. In order to overcome the expense of obtaining these models, an automated modelling pipeline has been developed and applied to a sample of 31 lens systems. This pipeline can derive models with minimal human and computing time, providing measurements of key parameters and predictions of magnification and time delays for multiple images.

Summary: Cosmological analyses with type Ia supernovae often overlook the varying dust properties in host galaxies, resulting in inaccurate conclusions. In this study, we use advanced modeling to characterize the dust parameters of 1100 Dark Energy Survey SN host galaxies and find that host dust has important impacts on SN cosmology, including a wide range of dust law slope R-V, lower R-V in high-stellar mass hosts compared to low-mass hosts, and a significant correlation between the Hubble diagram residuals of red SNe Ia and host R-V. These findings confirm recent predictions based on dust and provide insights into the "mass step" and intrinsic scatter in SN Ia analyses.

Early Results from GLASS-JWST. XI. Stellar Masses and Mass-to-light Ratio of z > 7 Galaxies

Summary: We utilize JWST NIRCam observations to study galaxy stellar masses at z > 7. Our findings show that JWST observations significantly reduce uncertainties on stellar mass and reveal a wide range of M/L (UV) values for a given luminosity, indicating diverse physical conditions and star formation histories. Previous estimates of cosmic stellar-mass density based on average correlation between UV luminosity and stellar mass can be biased by a factor of 6. This highlights the significance of JWST in understanding stellar masses and galaxy growth at z > 7.

GOGREEN: A critical assessment of environmental trends in cosmological hydrodynamical simulations at z ≈ 1

Summary: Recent observations have shown that the environmental quenching of galaxies at z ≈ 1 is different from that in the local Universe. However, the physical origin of these differences is still unclear. In this study, we compare three state-of-the-art simulations with observations to gain insight into the evolution of environmental quenching. We find that while the simulations generally reproduce the stellar content of galaxies in the field, they struggle to capture the observed quenching of satellites in the cluster environment.

Summary: Reverberation mapping measures the relationship between the size of the broad-line region and luminosity of AGN. This study presents reverberation measurements using H beta from the OzDES program, successfully recovering reverberation lags for eight AGN at higher redshifts. The results are consistent with previous measurements and the observed dependence on accretion rate, providing a foundation for future research.

Summary: We present the luminosity functions and host galaxy properties of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) core-collapse supernova (CCSN) sample, consisting of 69 Type II and 50 Type Ibc spectroscopically and photometrically confirmed supernovae over a redshift range 0.045 < z < 0.25. Comparing luminosity functions, the DES and ZTF samples of SNe II are brighter than that of LOSS with significances of 3.0 sigma and 2.5 sigma, respectively. We find that the host galaxies of SNe II in DES are on average bluer than in ZTF, despite having consistent stellar mass distributions.

Summary: The WALLABY pilot survey used ASKAP to form integrated 21-cm Hi line spectra in a different manner than traditional single-dish spectra Tully-Fisher measurements. It is crucial to quantify and understand slight differences in order to maximize the use of upcoming large-scale data. The pilot data consists of 614 galaxy spectra, with 472 of high enough quality for potential distance derivation using the Tully-Fisher relation. The resulting Tully-Fisher distances for the Eridanus, Hydra, Norma, and NGC4636 clusters are 21.5, 53.5, 69.4, and 23.0Mpc, respectively, with uncertainties of 5-10 percent.

Summary: In the early universe, sources of ultraviolet photons played a crucial role in ionizing intergalactic hydrogen, making the universe transparent to UV radiation. Fainter galaxies that are surrounded by neutral gas were believed to dominate the photon budget. By using the James Webb Space Telescope and gravitational lensing, the ultra-faint galaxy JD1 was spectroscopically confirmed at a redshift of z = 9.79, showing a compact and complex morphology with low stellar mass and subsolar metallicity.

The PAndAS View of the Andromeda Satellite System. IV. Global Properties

Amandine Doliva-Dolinsky, Nicolas F. Martin, Zhen Yuan, Alessandro Savino, Daniel R. Weisz, Annette M. N. Ferguson, Rodrigo A. Ibata, Stacy Y. Kim, Geraint F. Lewis, Alan W. McConnachie, Guillaume F. Thomas

Summary: We built a statistical framework to infer the global properties of the satellite system of the Andromeda galaxy (M31) using the properties of individual dwarf galaxies in a specific survey. This framework helped us determine the slope of the luminosity function, the spatial density distribution, and the size-luminosity relation of the dwarf galaxies. We found that there are still many faint or distant dwarf galaxies yet to be discovered around Andromeda.

Probing the consistency of cosmological contours for supernova cosmology

P. Armstrong, H. Qu, D. Brout, T. M. Davis, R. Kessler, A. G. Kim, C. Lidman, M. Sako, B. E. Tucker

Summary: As the scale of cosmological surveys increases, the complexity in the analyses also rises, making it difficult to derive the underlying principles. In this paper, a statistically rigorous method is presented to test the consistency of contours produced in cosmological analyses. The results show that while there are some differences between the Pippin pipeline and the approximate Neyman construction, the impact is mitigated when combining with other cosmological probes.

Summary: We present cosmological constraints from the analysis of two-point correlation functions between galaxy positions and galaxy lensing measured in Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year 3 data and measurements of cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) and Planck. The joint analysis of DES-only two-point functions and DES cross-correlations with CMB lensing yields Omega(m) = 0.344 + 0.030 and S-8 equivalent to sigma(8)(Omega(m)/0.3)(0.5) = 0.773 +/- 0.016. Combining with measurements of the CMB lensing autospectrum, we find omega m = 0.306(-0.021)(+0.018) and S-8 = 0.792 +/- 0.012. The CMB lensing cross-correlations provide consistency tests and suggest possible problems with alternative lens galaxy samples.
