Summary: This study examines the agreement between parental-reported data on allergic rhinitis (AR) during childhood and data from two national Swedish registers. The results show poor agreement between questionnaire and register data on AR diagnosis and dispensed medication, possibly due to over-the-counter drugs and diagnosis in primary care not being included in the registers.

Summary: This study is the first to describe the prevalences of non-allergic rhinitis (NAR) phenotypes in the general population. NAR and allergic rhinitis (AR) have distinct seasonal patterns, with NAR being more prevalent in autumn/winter and AR in spring/summer. The data on the prevalence of phenotypes can help clinicians anticipate patient types and guide tailored treatment approaches.

Individuals with early onset of sensitization have the highest risk of developing asthma and rhinitis, especially when combined with a family history of allergic diseases.

Summary: This study reveals a high prevalence of sleep disorders in Chinese preschoolers, with specific sleep problems differing from preschoolers in other cultures. It suggests the need for a local standard when using the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) to define sleep disorders in children in China. Further investigation into the reasons behind the high prevalence of sleep disorders and supportive intervention for Chinese preschoolers is necessary.

Summary: This study analyzed the data of Dangyang New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme from 2012 to 2017 and found that about one-third of high-cost patients each year maintained their high-cost status in the subsequent year. Factors such as old age, families with more non-labor members, families applying for subsistence allowances, and patients with blood and immune diseases or malignant tumors were more likely to maintain high-cost status. The high utilization of inpatient services was identified as a prominent manifestation of persistently high-cost patients.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the lifestyle and stress of mothers during pregnancy and analyze the risk factors for early childhood diseases. A cross-sectional survey in a sub-district in Guangzhou, China revealed that nearly half of the children were likely to have allergic diseases. Factors such as male gender, preterm birth, unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy complications, and exposure to secondhand smoke during pregnancy all increased the risk of childhood allergies. A family history of allergies, especially maternal, was found to be the most important risk factor.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of sleep-disordered breathing in children on parental benefits and found that there was no significant difference in the number of days caregivers stayed at home before and after tonsil surgery. While SDB is associated with increased morbidity, it does not seem to cause caregivers to have to stay at home in the majority of cases.

Summary: This study investigated the expression of PD-1, CD69, and HLA-DR on T cells in OSCC patients' PBMCs, TDLNs, and tumor samples. The results showed highly activated T lymphocytes expressing high levels of PD-1 in OSCC tissue, with lower levels in TDLNs and peripheral blood. Patients with a high percentage of CD3(+) PD-1(+) cells in TDLNs had significantly lower disease-free and overall survival rates. This suggests that analyzing PD-1 levels in TDLNs may help predict survival and response to anti-PD-1 therapy in OSCC.

Summary: In a study involving 366 patients operated on by one experienced surgeon, septoplasty and septoplasty + turbinoplasty were shown to be more effective at relieving nasal obstruction than turbinoplasty alone. Patients who underwent septoplasty + turbinoplasty experienced a greater improvement in general health compared to those who underwent septoplasty alone, despite similar improvements in nasal obstruction. This suggests a beneficial effect of additional turbinoplasty in septoplasty procedures.

The risk of new-onset chronic rhinosinusitis was 53% higher in the obese group compared to the normal weight group. Therefore, it is important to consider obesity when assessing patients with chronic rhinosinusitis in a clinical setting.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction between neutrophils and airway epithelium during inflammatory resolution in patients with allergic asthma. The results showed that healthy epithelial cells regenerated faster than asthmatic epithelial cells, and autologous neutrophils improved the regeneration of healthy epithelial cells but not asthmatic epithelial cells. Furthermore, the expression of IL-8 and β-catenin was down-regulated in healthy epithelial cells after resolution, but not in asthmatic epithelial cells.

Summary: This study demonstrates for the first time increased activity in the Notch1/4 - JAG-1/DLL-1 pathways among allergic individuals. It further emphasizes the significance of Notch signaling in allergic rhinitis, and suggests that blocking JAG-1 and DLL-1-induced Notch signaling by nasal epithelial cells and neutrophils may reduce allergic airway inflammation.
