Introduction: In this retrospective study concerning patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) scanned with 18-F-Dopa PET (N = 129), we looked for an association between reduced 18-F-Dopa uptake and the key PD symptoms tremor and hypokinesia-rigidity. We hypothesized to find a stronger correlation between dopaminergic depletion in the striatum and hypokinesia-rigidity compared to tremor. Methods: The onset side of symptoms (documented for 102 patients) as well as the first registered UPDRS (available for 79 patients) was used to correlate with F-Dopa uptake values in the caudate nucleus and putamen in this large retrospective sample. Results: Reduced F-Dopa uptake was contralateral to hypokinesia-rigidity symptoms and correlated with its severity (quantified by UPDRS). For tremor severity, no correlation was seen with F-Dopa reduction. Furthermore, freezing of gait correlated with reduced F-Dopa uptake in the putamen of the right hemisphere. Conclusion and discussion: Our results, obtained in a large patient group, provides support for the concept that tremor in PD is not only based on a dopamine related pathway but may rely on a different pathway. Quantitative assessment of myelin density using [11C]MeDAS PET in patients with multiple sclerosis: a first-in-human study

Chris W. J. van der Weijden, Jan F. Meilof, Anouk van der Hoorn, Junqing Zhu, Chunying Wu, Yanming Wang, Antoon T. M. Willemsen, Rudi A. J. O. Dierckx, Adriaan A. Lammertsma, Erik F. J. de Vries

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate [C-11]MeDAS as a PET tracer for myelin imaging in humans. The 2T3k model was found to be the optimal compartment model, and MLAIR2 was the best simplified method for quantification. [C-11]MeDAS PET can be used for quantification of myelin density in MS patients and is able to distinguish differences in myelin density within MS lesions.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intravenous aspirin and unfractionated heparin during endovascular treatment, as well as their impact on functional outcomes in patients. The results showed that both medications were associated with an increased risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage without any significant improvement in functional outcomes.

Susceptibility- weighted imaging in intracranial hemorrhage: not all bleeds are black

Linda bm Weerink, Auke pa Appelman, Reina w Kloet, A. N. O. U. K. van der Hoorn

Summary: To correctly identify intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and distinguish it from other lesions, it is necessary to understand the imaging characteristics of ICH on susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI). It is a common misconception that blood appears as a black signal on SWI, but the appearance of ICH on SWI varies at different stages. Additionally, a low signal on SWI does not always indicate the presence of blood products. This review discusses and illustrates the appearance of ICH on SWI at all stages and common causes of a low signal on SWI.

Summary: This study compared the disease-specific patterns (AD-DP) based on regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and 2-deoxy-2-[F-18]fluoroglucose (FDG) PET for the identification of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. The results suggest that rCBF images may serve as an alternative to FDG PET scans for AD patient identification.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive literature overview on alterations in regional cerebral glucose metabolism in conditions associated with hyperkinetic movement disorders and ataxia, using [F-18]FDG PET. The study included studies on tremors, tics, dystonia, ataxia, chorea, myoclonus, functional movement disorders, or mixed movement disorders due to autoimmune or metabolic causes. The results showed that glucose metabolism changes were found in various brain regions in all movement disorders, and clinical characteristics often correlated with glucose metabolism.

Association between thrombus composition and stroke etiology in the MR CLEAN Registry biobank

Summary: Thrombus composition is significantly associated with stroke etiology, with an increase in red blood cell (RBC) content and a decrease in fibrin/platelet (F/P) content raising the odds for a non-cardioembolic cause. No difference in thrombus composition was observed between cardioembolic thrombi and those of undetermined origin.

Summary: This study compared the use of univariate Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) and multivariate Scaled Subprofile Model/Principal Component Analysis (SSM/PCA) for analyzing brain metabolism patterns in patients with a-synucleinopathies.
