Summary: Concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) system provides higher efficiency within a certain range of insolation, depending on the relative difference in conversion efficiencies of PV materials. Experimental results of a GaAs based CPV module show a nominal efficiency of 24.0%. A systematic comparison under different insolations is performed using an opto-thermal model, providing a general methodology for design decision-making.

Summary: This paper discusses the potential of using the heat generated by Concentrator PhotoVoltaics (CPV) to thermally desalinate salt water. The trade-off between the net electricity amount and the net distilled water amount is analyzed in a hybrid CPV-T system. The results demonstrate that the CPV-T system has the ability to generate both electrical power and freshwater.

Summary: This research addresses the performance gap between commercially available organic photovoltaic modules and hero cells in literature by developing a printable silver nanoparticle film top electrode. The AgNP electrode achieves almost the same power conversion efficiencies as evaporated silver electrodes and performs even better under low light conditions. This work demonstrates that fully printed OPV modules can achieve similar performance as small scale OPV cells with evaporated electrodes, offering an attractive alternative for large scale manufacturing.

Summary: The study found that using liquid filters with high thermal conductivity and heat capacity can improve total solar energy conversion in all solar concentrations. Low thermal conductivity and heat capacity filters are more suitable for low solar concentration applications, while high thermal absorption filters above undesired PV wavelengths promote co-conversion efficiency.

Summary: Organic photovoltaics (OPV) have the potential to play a vital role in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) due to their functional attributes. Research has shown that OPV modules can achieve higher energy yields compared to traditional silicon photovoltaics (Si-PV) in specific installation angles. The performance of OPV modules is particularly significant when mounted vertically.

Summary: This paper presents a misalignment measurement method for inspecting CPV plants. The method involves capturing images of magnified solar cells using a visual camera mounted on a drone, and the relative position between modules is determined based on the observed spatial misplacement. The experimental validation shows that the method can effectively characterize misalignments up to 0.95 degrees with a measurement uncertainty lower than +/- 0.09 degrees.

Summary: Hybrid perovskite photovoltaics have both high performance and ease of solution processing. However, the lack of understanding of the formation of thin film morphology in coated perovskite precursor films raises doubts about scaling up laboratory-scale solution processes. This study presents a quantitative model of drying dynamics under oblique slot jets, providing guidance on controlling this dynamic method for successful scaling of perovskite solution printing.

Summary: A major limitation of liquid cooling is the temperature non-uniformity issue, which affects heat transfer efficiency. By using a heat sink with cylindrical pinfin microstructures and varying the fin height, the temperature non-uniformity can be effectively reduced, resulting in improved heat transfer performance.

Summary: This study investigates the electrical behavior and lifetime differences of organic photovoltaic (OPV) modules installed inside, on the outside of a polytunnel greenhouse roof, and on a fixed frame next to the polytunnel. The aim is to find an installation location that reduces degradation and prolongs the lifetime of OPV modules in a greenhouse application. The degradation rates of the modules are influenced by exposure to weather conditions, mechanical stresses caused by the movement of the greenhouse plastic sheeting, and dust accumulation. Efficiency and fill factor values decrease for modules on top of the polytunnel, inside the polytunnel, and on frames next to the polytunnel. Installing OPV modules inside a tunnel can increase module lifetimes and overall lifecycle output. Avoiding the stresses caused by film movement can further improve OPV lifetimes.
