Summary: Core-shell bimetallic nanocatalysts have been widely studied in heterogeneous catalysis. In this study, Au@Pd core-shell catalysts were investigated and it was found that a large Au core with a thin Pd shell is crucial for achieving optimum benzyl alcohol adsorption and high catalytic activity. A series of Au@Pd/SiO2 catalysts with different core sizes and shell thicknesses were fabricated, and it was observed that the activity increased with core size but varied nonmonotonically with shell thickness. The findings reveal the importance of conjugated dual particle size effect in bimetallic catalysis.

Summary: With the development of device miniaturization, there is a demand for a flexible and fast method to prepare microstructures with desired patterns. In this study, a novel photoreduction-polymerization method is developed for preparing conductive metal-polymer patterns. Ag/polyaniline nanocomposites are synthesized using maskless optical projection lithography technology, which demonstrates the surface-enhanced Raman scattering effect on the microstructures. This preparation method opens up new avenues for the fabrication of micro-nano devices such as sensors and detectors.

Summary: In this study, we propose a mild, ecofriendly, and straightforward synthesis method for producing core-shell Au@Ag bimetallic nanoparticles for antibacterial nanomedicine and SERS imaging. The synthesis utilizes a cationic polymeric cyclodextrin as a reducing and stabilizing agent to obtain monodispersed and stable nanoparticles. The resulting nanoparticles show good antibacterial activity and can be used for various applications.

Summary: Hydrogen generation through electrocatalytic watersplitting is a promising technology for sustainable and clean energy production. In this study, Ag-coated Au nanostars assembled on DNA origami were designed and their electrocatalytic activity in oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was explored. The results demonstrate that these bimetallic nanostar catalysts exhibit excellent OER activity and high stability, thanks to the highly conductive Ag layer.

Summary: Azo dyes and nitrophenols are widely used in industries but are highly toxic to aquatic organisms. In this study, a low-cost PdO-doped NiO hetero-mixture was synthesized and found to have excellent catalytic activity, high reduction rates, and stable performance in reducing toxic azo compounds. The PdO-NiO catalyst could be a promising solution for the degradation of azo compounds in the environment.

Summary: A new type of hybrid core-shell nanoparticle dielectric suitable for inkjet printing is introduced, with gold cores covalently grafted with polystyrene to create dielectric layers with metal volume fractions of 5 to 21%. The materials show high dielectric constants without the risk of breakdown at high metal fractions, making them ideal for capacitor applications.

Summary: We report a facile synthesis strategy of bimetallic ultra-thin shell-wrapped gold-palladium (Au-Pd) core@shell nanoparticles (NPs) employing the liquid-assisted pulsed laser ablation (LA-PLA) technique. The bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared by double-step successive and single-step simultaneous laser ablation in the presence of precursor solutions. The columbic attraction of the metal ions in the solution with the ablated metal nanoparticles ensures the uniform wrapping of ultra-thin shell layer through the electrostatic self-assembly.

Summary: This study synthesized core-shell nanoparticles with a Ni core and a Ag-Ni nano alloy shell by reducing Ni and Ag ions with sodium borohydride in the presence of trisodium citrate as a stabilizer. XRD and XPS spectroscopic studies were conducted to determine the phase composition and oxidation states of the nanoparticles, respectively. The composition and shape of the particles were determined using HR-TEM EDS testing. The obtained nanoparticles had a size of 11 nm. Catalytic activity research was carried out using a methylene blue reduction system, and the catalytic activity of the colloids was measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The Ag-Ni alloy exhibited approximately ten times higher catalytic activity than pure silver nanoparticles of a similar size.
