Summary: BDD is a common mental disorder among adolescents and young adults, with patients in Germany having access to cognitive-behavioral treatment through health insurance, although with long waiting lists. Providing internet-based therapist-guided CBT interventions could improve accessibility of care for this severe mental disorder, especially considering adolescents' and young adults' high affinity to electronic media.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility, safety, and preliminary efficacy of internet-delivered cognitive behavior therapy (ICBT) for individuals with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). The results showed that ICBT with minimal therapist support is a feasible, potentially effective, and durable treatment for adolescents with BDD. Risky behaviors should be carefully monitored during treatment.

Summary: This study compared internet-based psychodynamic therapy (IPDT) with established evidence-based treatment (internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy [ICBT]) for adolescents with depression. The findings showed that IPDT is as effective as ICBT in reducing depression severity among adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD). This study provides additional accessible and effective treatment options for adolescents with depression.

Summary: This study evaluated the implementation of therapist-guided internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) in the Swedish public health system. The results showed that ICBT was efficacious in reducing symptoms and could be reproduced in a clinical setting. The implementation of OCD-NET and BDD-NET in the Swedish public health service was deemed suitable.

Summary: A meta-analysis of 11 studies found that guided and self-guided internet-delivered cognitive-behavioural therapy (ICBT) showed similar efficacy in the treatment of anxiety and related disorders (ARDs). Guided ICBT had slightly better outcomes at post-treatment, but there were no significant differences at follow-up. Gender distribution, type of support, and amount of guidance in guided-treatment moderated treatment outcomes.

Summary: The study aims to investigate whether virtual reality cognitive-behavioral therapy (VRcbt) is more effective and cost-effective than standard cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBTp) in treating paranoid delusions and improving daily life social functioning of patients with psychotic disorders. The findings will provide valuable information about the relative effectiveness of VRcbt for this population, potentially making it a preferred psychological treatment for paranoid delusions and social anxiety in patients with psychotic disorders.

Summary: This study investigated the symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and factors associated with BDD symptomatology among undergraduate students in Bangladesh. The study found that approximately 11% of participants had mild to moderate BDD symptoms, and 1.5% had severe symptoms. About 58% of participants had at least one body defect. Men had lower odds of experiencing BDD symptomatology, while participants aged between 20 and 24 years, studying in private universities, smokers, and those with body defects had higher odds of BDD symptomatology.

Summary: This study explored predictors and moderators of treatment outcome for body dysmorphic disorder, finding that higher treatment credibility and presence of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder predicted greater improvement, while baseline serotonin-reuptake inhibitor treatment predicted less improvement. Overall, severity of body dysmorphic disorder, depressive symptoms, and insight did not impede improvement. No variables were found to moderate treatment-specific improvement.

Summary: Shame is considered central in body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and interventions that foster self-compassion have shown promise for reducing shame and improving symptoms in BDD. This study developed and evaluated an acceptance and compassion-based treatment, ACT with Compassion (ACTwC), specifically targeting shame in BDD. Preliminary results showed significant reductions in BDD-behaviors, self-criticism, and body shame, as well as improvements in general shame, overall BDD-symptoms, depressive symptoms, and quality of life. Treatment responders also showed gains in psychological flexibility and self-compassion.

Summary: This nationwide cohort study examined the association of previous psychiatric diagnosis or self-reported symptoms of anxiety or depression with cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients after myocardial infarction. The results showed that both previous diagnosis and present symptoms were associated with an increased risk of death and recurrent cardiovascular events, and screening for present symptoms alone is inadequate to assess this excessive risk.

Summary: This study analyzed the role of treatment expectations and other placebo-like mechanisms in online psychological interventions compared to face-to-face treatment. The findings suggest that online treatment is equally susceptible to expectancy effects as face-to-face therapy. This further understanding of the importance of placebo-like factors in online treatment may help improve healthcare in online settings.
