Summary: ACR exposure has been shown to cause neurotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, and carcinogenicity, but the exact mechanism of its toxicity remains unknown. In this study, it was demonstrated that ACR inhibited autophagic flux, increased ROS content, and led to apoptosis and inflammatory responses. Metabolomic analysis revealed significant differences in metabolic profiles between ACR treated and control cells.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of interleukin 10 (IL-10) on the autophagy of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and found that IL-10 inhibited autophagy by activating the STAT3-mTOR signaling pathway. IL-10 plays an important role in suppressing liver fibrosis and reducing autophagic activity in fibrotic livers and HSCs.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of curcumin nanoparticles and nanocapsules on the expression of p53, Bcl-2, Bax, and Caspase-3 genes in a liver cancer cell line. Results showed that curcumin nanocapsules increased the population of apoptotic cells and upregulated proapoptotic genes while decreasing the Bcl-2/Bax ratio.

Summary: Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is a highly prevalent cancer with a significant mortality rate worldwide. Current therapies for CRC, such as surgery and chemotherapy, have severe side effects. Therefore, natural polyphenols, such as phloretin found in apple, pear, and strawberry, are being investigated as potential nutraceutical agents to prevent CRC. This study showed that phloretin has significant anticancer activity against CRC cells in vitro. Phloretin inhibited cell proliferation, colony formation, and cellular migration in human colorectal cancer cells. It also induced apoptosis and halted the cell cycle at G2/M phase. Furthermore, phloretin inactivated the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway, which is involved in the proliferation and apoptosis of colon cancer cells. The results suggest that phloretin can be used as a nutraceutical anticancer agent for combating CRC.

Summary: This study found that lycorine has the potential to be an anti-fibrotic drug for the intervention of hypertrophic scars. Lycorine selectively decreases the viability of fibroblasts and induces apoptosis. Additionally, lycorine inhibits the migration and contraction of fibroblasts and reduces the expression of collagen and alpha-SMA.

Summary: Glucocappasalin (GCP) from Descurainia sophia seeds shows potential antitumor activity in HeLa cervical carcinoma cells. GCP induces cell cycle G2/M-phase arrest, apoptosis, and autophagy by acting on the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathways, making it a promising agent for cervical cancer eradication.
