Summary: Polyoxovanadates (POVs) (NH4)(2)K-2[V-4(mu(2)-OH)(4)(ox)(4)(pz)(4)]·9H(2)O (1) and (NH4)(2)Na-2[V-4(mu(2)-OH)(4)(ox)(4)(4-mpz)(4)]·7H(2)O (2) were constructed with pyrazole, while hexa- and octanuclear products K-2[V-6(mu(2)-OH)(6)(ox)(6)(Hdatrz)(6)]Cl-2·29.5H(2)O (3) and [V-8(mu(2)-OH)(8)(SO3)(8)(Hdatrz)(8)]·38H(2)O (4) show strong affinities for CO2 and O-2 gas adsorption. POMOF 4 demonstrates enhanced CO2 adsorption due to Lewis base amino and hydroxy groups and uncoordinated azolate N-donors.

Summary: A new general synthetic route to selective actinide extracting ligands has been established, which can be used in the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. These ligands, functionalized with amide group, exhibit high selectivity in separating Am(iii) and Cm(iii) from lanthanides and demonstrate rapid metal extraction rates. Furthermore, they overcome the main drawback of unfunctionalized ligands derived from camphorquinone, which tend to form precipitate when in contact with nitric acid.

Summary: By designing a free-standing carbon nanotube film functionalized with lithiophilic amide-containing functional groups, uniform Li nucleation and prevention of dendrite growth can be achieved. The A(f)-CNT electrode showed ultralow overpotential and high Coulombic efficiency in a Li||A(f)-CNT half-cell, and exhibited excellent cycle stability and low polarization in full cell configurations with a LFP cathode.

Summary: A chromatography resin was prepared by impregnating HONTA on chromosorb-W, which exhibited excellent performance in selectively separating Pu4+ from uranium and americium. The distribution coefficient for Pu4+ (at 3 M HNO3) was around 10(4) mL/g, with separation factors of >10(3) for other actinides. The extraction kinetics of Pu4+ followed both film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion models, taking 20 minutes to reach equilibrium. The Pu4+ sorption on the resin followed the Langmuir monolayer model with a sorption energy of 11.2 kJ/mol. The resin had a maximum Pu4+ loading capacity of 58.2 mg/g, corresponding to 1:1 Pu/ligand complex formation. Excellent column performance was observed for selectively separating Pu4+ from a mixture of Pu, Am, and U in a 3 M HNO3 solution.

Summary: Silyl-amino-propyl-3-oxa-glutaramic acid (SAPOGA) functionalized titania has been synthesized for highly efficient solid phase sequestration of thorium and uranyl ions from an aqueous acidic waste stream. The Langmuir isotherm and intraparticle diffusion-based kinetics model describe the sorption behavior accurately, showing high sorption capacity and rate. Experimental results and density functional theory calculations provide insight into the metal-ligand interaction mechanism.

Summary: The performance of functionalized carbon nanotubes (f-CNT) as drug carriers was studied. The results showed that CNT-COO-FA has better performance in releasing the anticancer drug doxorubicin compared to CNT-COO, with both pH and ligand sensitive mechanisms being responsible for the higher drug delivery efficiency of CNT-COO-FA.

Summary: In this study, two novel N-substituted 2,2'-oxydiacetic acid diamide-functionalized silica resins (R1 and R2) were synthesized for the removal of U(VI) and Th(IV) from nitric acid-rich effluents. The resins exhibited high sorption capacities for U(VI) and Th(IV) at high feed acidity, and could be effectively desorbed using Na2CO3 and oxalic acid as desorbing agents. These resins showed exceptional acid stability compared to other solid-phase extractants.

Summary: Novel ternary conductive composites were successfully prepared by incorporating FMWCNTs into binary composites of PAI and POMA, significantly enhancing the conductivity of PAI composites. The improved conductivity is attributed to the more intensive conductive network formed in the PAI/POMA/FMWCNTs ternary composites, as observed by the blue shift in the N-H bending frequency and increased glass transition temperature.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of titanium dioxide nanotube addition on the water sorption and solubility values of different composite resins. Nanotubes were synthesized and characterized, then tested on various composite resins. The results showed that TiO2 nanotube reinforcement significantly decreased water sorption and solubility values in all composite resins except for Venus.

Summary: The study shows that different substituents have an impact on the binding energy of Cs(+) complexes with calix[4]arene-crown-6, with methoxy substitution leading to the highest binding energy. The calculated Delta G(ext) values are found to increase with the dielectric constant of the solvent, and the highest value is obtained in nitrobenzene.

Summary: In this study, the interaction and dynamical behaviors of hydrogen isotopes in bcc Cr lattice were investigated using density functional theory. It was found that the lighter H atom exhibits higher diffusion, permeability, and solubility compared to the heavier D and T atoms. The results obtained here may be helpful in designing suitable materials to prevent tritium permeation in the future.

Summary: Thorium exposure is a radiochemical hazard to humans, with chelation therapy by drugs like pyrazinoic acid showing promise as a decorporating agent. Research has delved into the chemical interactions and biological effectiveness of pyrazinoic acid for thorium removal, with thermodynamic parameters for Th-PCA speciation determined experimentally and theoretically. Biological experiments confirmed the cytocompatibility and decorporation ability of PCA for thorium, with density functional calculations providing insights at the molecular level. Both experimental results and theoretical predictions align, supporting further evaluation of PCA's safety and efficacy in animal models.
