Summary: The mesoporous Si-Fe-GO composite was prepared by sol-gel method and exhibited strong uranium-chelating ability, fast uranium adsorption kinetics, and high uranium adsorption capacity in the static adsorption process. The composite followed pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models, indicating monolayer chemical adsorption. The composite also showed tolerance to coexisting ions and good regeneration ability.

Summary: A new synthesis approach was developed for the electrodeposition of Mg-Fe layered double hydroxide (LDH) film on oxidised magnesium alloy WE43 surface. The Mg(OH)(2) surface layer altered the morphology of LDH film, resulting in structured LDH nanoplates. The Mg-Fe LDH film exhibited improved corrosion resistance and impedance performance.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion behavior of corrosion-resistant films steam coated on AZCa612 magnesium alloy. The corrosion protection mechanism varied with the immersion time, with high corrosion resistance provided by Mg(OH)(2) and AlO(OH) under a short immersion time and coverage provided by Mg-Al-Cl and Mg-Al-CO3 LDHs under a longer immersion duration.

Summary: Light-fueled photothermal actuators with vulcanized layered double hydroxide nanosheets and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)hydrogel networks were developed for efficient and robust control in low-temperature conditions. The composite hydrogels demonstrated excellent actuation performances and fast reversible responses in water via photothermal contraction and expansion control. This research significantly expands the application prospects of hydrogel-based intelligent materials in remote light-controlled devices.

Summary: A series of novel layered double hydroxides (Mg-Fe-Ti-LDHs) containing Mg2+, Fe3+ and Ti4+ were prepared and their adsorption performance on vanadate in aqueous solution was investigated. The results showed that the introduction of Ti4+ into the LDHs materials increased the vanadate adsorption efficiency. The adsorption capacity was also influenced by the anion intercalated layers, with Cl- intercalation showing higher removal compared to CO32-. The pH of the solution and coexisting ions also had significant effects on vanadate adsorption.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of a composite material combining natural zeolite and Mg/Al LDH in the adsorption of ammonium from aqueous solutions. The results showed that the Mg/Al LDH-zeolite composite had higher adsorption capacity and heterogeneity. The optimal conditions for NH4+ adsorption were a solution pH of 8.0, a reaction time of 60 min, and an initial ammonium concentration of 40 mg/L. The maximum adsorption capacity of Mg/Al LDH-zeolite was 17.81 mg/g with an NH4+ removal efficiency of 89.03%.

Summary: In this study, a novel CdS@Mg(OH)(2) core/shell composite nanorods photocatalyst was synthesized by coating Mg(OH)(2) on CdS surface. The coated-Mg(OH)(2) layer improved the photocatalytic water splitting performance, and after Pt deposition, the hydrogen production rate and stability were further enhanced.

Summary: Polydopamine-coated phosphate-intercalated Mg-Fe layered double hydroxides (PDA/phos-LDH) were fabricated for capturing U(VI). The introduction of phosphate and PDA significantly increased the removal amount for U(VI) due to increased functional groups. The highest removal amount of PDA/phos-LDH reached 912.0 mg/g within 60 min, and remained as high as 81.4% after 5 repeated uses.

Summary: A one-step approach is developed for the decoration of CdTe QDs onto the surface of GO nanosheets/integration of QDs into GO nanosheets through self-assembly, forming sandwiched hybrid heterojunctions. Interlinking QDs and GO nanosheets improves photocurrent generation (~5.8 μA cm-2) and enhances electron transfer by prolonging decay time (58.25 ms). The obtained higher rate constant value (k = 0.135 min-1) enables the degradation of 93% MB dye in 20 min. This work demonstrates a cost-effective strategy for constructing CdTe QDs/GO nanosheet hybrid heterojunctions with potential application in photocatalysis.
