Summary: This study conducted a wide range of targeted metabolomics profiling to investigate plasma signatures of breast cancer. The analysis identified 716 metabolites, with serotonin as the main metabolic pathway. By combining the changes in these metabolites, differentiation between benign abnormalities and breast cancer was achieved. This study provides new insights into plasma biomarkers for the differential diagnosis of breast cancer.

Summary: The study found that the lipid composition of plasma-derived extracellular vesicles can serve as biomarkers for diagnosing breast cancer as well as identifying its progression and subtypes. By analyzing the lipid profiles, a diagnostic model for breast cancer was established, and several lipids were discovered to effectively differentiate the progression and subtypes of breast cancer. Lipid profiling of plasma-derived extracellular vesicles is a non-invasive and promising approach for diagnosing, staging, and subtyping breast cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to identify circulating miRNAs that can serve as detection markers for breast cancer arising from high-risk benign tumors. Four miRNAs were found to differentiate early-stage breast cancer from high-risk benign tumors, and were associated with the IGF-1 pathway. These miRNAs have the potential to be biomarkers for detecting early-stage breast cancer.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors for breast cancer and their influence on the progression of benign and premalignant breast lesions to invasive breast cancer. It found that the use of menopausal hormone therapy, alcohol consumption, and tobacco smoking may increase the risk of breast cancer in women with these lesions.

Summary: This study characterized the plasma lipidome of peripartal dairy cows and identified metabolites associated with metabolic diseases, revealing specific lipid markers for elevated total fatty acids, beta-hydroxybutyrate, and liver lipid content. The dynamic peripartal lipidome remodeling suggests the potential for nutritional interventions to prevent excess lipolysis and fatty liver.

Summary: The study investigated the plasma metabolome and lipidome of patients with suspected OSA to identify potential biomarkers for diagnosis and understand the underlying mechanisms of the disease. Results showed a plasma profile comprising 33 metabolites in OSA patients, with a specific 4-metabolite signature providing high accuracy for OSA detection. CPAP treatment led to changes in 5 plasma metabolites affected by OSA, indicating a potential for personalized OSA management using blood-based biomarkers and suggesting adaptive mechanisms in response to OSA-induced hypoxia.

Summary: The study found that hsa_circ_0058514 can serve as an early plasma biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis with better diagnostic value than conventional tumor markers. It is also a predictor for the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Additionally, the expression level of hsa_circ_0058514 is associated with clinicopathological characteristics in breast cancer patients.

Summary: This study found a higher level of bisphenol A (BPA) in the urine of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients compared to controls, and a positive correlation between BPA and CRC biomarkers. Lipidomic screening revealed significant perturbation in the glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway, which contributed to the association between BPA exposure and CRC. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the etiology of CRC induced by environmental stressors.

Summary: The study aimed to identify peripheral lipids associated with breast cancer in the Chinese population and explore the potential lipid metabolism pathways implicated in breast cancer. Lipidomics analysis of serum samples from breast cancer patients and healthy women identified 47 significantly different lipids, including 13 diagnostic biomarkers. The multivariate ROC curve analysis showed that a classification capacity with AUC greater than 0.8 could be achieved using 2-47 lipids.

Summary: The lipidomics profile of patients with Kallmann syndrome was found to be significantly different from healthy controls, with triacylglycerols, phosphatidylcholines, and phosphatidylethanolamine being identified as the main differential lipid species. This study suggests that TAGs, PCs, and PE may serve as promising biomarkers for KS diagnosis, representing the first report to analyze lipidomics in men with Kallmann syndrome.

Summary: Cholangiocarcinoma is a malignant tumor with poor prognosis. A high-throughput nanoassisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry technique was constructed to explore potential biomarkers for CCA diagnosis. Lipidomics and peptidomics analyses identified 25 characteristic molecules as potential diagnostic biomarkers. An artificial neural network model achieved high sensitivity and specificity for CCA diagnosis. Integrated analysis confirmed the significant impact of genes altered in CCA on lipid and protein-related pathways. Data are available in the MetaboLights database with the identifier MTBLS6712.

Summary: Dysregulation of lipid metabolism is a known characteristic of breast cancer, with a study using H-1-NMR analysis finding alterations in circulating lipoproteins in HER2-positive breast cancer patients, particularly elevated VLDL subfractions. Monitoring plasma lipoproteins profile changes during treatment interventions can help predict clinical outcomes. This underscores the importance of studying lipid metabolism in HER2-positive breast cancer for diagnostic and prognostic purposes.
