Summary: This study identified a long noncoding RNA (FLAIL) in Arabidopsis that is associated with flowering. FLAIL directly interacts with target genes and affects their expression through RNA-DNA interactions and alternative splicing. The findings suggest that lncRNAs can regulate gene expression and organismal development as accessory components of the spliceosome.

Summary: This study identified a major locus controlling the polymorphism of dark- and pale-green leaves in lettuce using genome-wide association studies, and fine mapped it to a specific interval on chromosome 4. The insertion of a CACTA transposon near the candidate gene LsGLK was found to affect its splicing, resulting in the production of pale-green leaves. Evolutionary analysis suggested that this transposon insertion may have been selected in particular lettuce cultivars to meet the diverse demands of consumers.

Summary: ZFAS1 is highly expressed in laryngeal cancer and associated with lymph node metastasis and clinical stages. It promotes proliferation, invasion, and expression of N-cadherin and Vimentin, while suppressing E-cadherin expression in LC cells. ZFAS1 stabilizes RBFOX2 protein expression by binding to it and regulates alternative splicing of MENA, affecting cell functions and malignant progression of laryngeal cancer.

Summary: This study reveals the important role and mechanism of long non-coding RNA BC in promoting tumor metastasis and influencing clinical prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). BC promotes growth, invasion, metastasis, and resistance to EGFR-targeted therapies in lung cancer by forming a splicing complex with nucleolin and hnRNPK. High expression of BC is associated with clinical progress and poor survival in LUAD.

Summary: The Hippo signaling pathway regulates organ growth by controlling the activity of the transcription coactivator Yorkie (Yki) in Drosophila and its homolog YAP in mammals. Alternative splicing of the Yki gene is modulated by the splicing factor B52, leading to differences in protein composition and developmental instability. This study highlights the importance of alternative splicing in modulating the Hippo pathway and maintaining developmental robustness.

Summary: This study reveals a mutual repression between p53 and lncRNA E2F1 messenger RNA stabilizing factor (EMS) in tumor suppression. EMS inhibits p53 expression by disrupting the CPEB2-p53 mRNA interaction, leading to a suppression of p53 translation. EMS plays a critical role in promoting tumorigenesis through negative regulation of p53.
