Summary: The incidence and mortality of early-onset colorectal cancer (CRC) are increasing, with a prevalence of young-onset adenomas increasing with age. Studies found a 6% risk of metachronous advanced neoplasia after baseline young-onset adenoma diagnosis.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined 30 potential risk factors for young-onset advanced colorectal neoplasia, and found that male sex, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, sedentary behavior, smoking, high alcohol consumption, high intake of sugar and red meat, as well as family history of colorectal cancer, were all significant risk factors. These findings provide important guidance for the development of targeted primary prevention strategies.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the potential association between Craniopharyngioma (CP), chronotypes, and metabolic risk profile. Results showed that patients with evening chronotype had higher blood pressure values and worse metabolic parameters than those with morning chronotype. The study suggests that alterations of chronotype might represent an additional risk factor for CP patients and a possible target for integrated management.

Summary: The study identified risk factors associated with advanced colorectal neoplasia (AN) in subjects with negative Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), including age, gender, smoking history, and metabolic syndrome. For FIT-negative cases, colonoscopy screening should be considered for male patients over 50 years old with a history of smoking and metabolic syndrome to detect AN.

Summary: Recent research in Spain has shown an increased incidence of ischemic stroke (IS) in young adults, with a higher percentage of vascular risk factors. This study analyzed data from a nationwide inpatient sample and estimated the in-hospital incidence of IS and its comorbidities by sex and age group. The findings revealed a higher incidence of IS in men under the age of 50, and young adults with IS had a higher prevalence of vascular risk factors compared to the general population. These results provide important insights for primary and secondary prevention strategies.

Summary: The study investigated the causes and influencing factors of fetal loss in women of advanced maternal age. Fetal factors were the most common cause of fetal loss, followed by maternal factors, umbilical cord factors, and placental factors. Low education level, unemployment, abnormal pregnancy/labor history, and pregnancy complications were identified as risk factors for fetal loss in advanced maternal age.

The results indicated that being overweight, the extent of gastrectomy, tumor stage, and overall complications were significant risk factors affecting long-term survival in these patients.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the association between HRA characteristics and the outcomes of CRC or AAs surveillance. The study found that adenomas larger than 20mm, high-grade dysplasia (HGD), and adenomas with villous component were associated with higher risk of metachronous CRC. However, multiplicity of adenomas did not seem to be significantly associated with higher CRC risk in the near term.

Summary: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is caused by the suppression of physiological retinal vascular development, leading to compensatory but pathological neovascularization. Promoting normal vessel growth can prevent ROP. Early perinatal metabolic dysregulation is a risk factor for ROP and other long-term sequelae. Controlling postnatal hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and hyperoxia can promote normal retinal development.

Summary: This study investigated the association between hepatic and metabolic factors and renal cancer risk. The results showed that high serum HDL-C levels reduced renal cancer risk, while hepatitis B virus antigen and chronic HBV infection increased its risk. In addition, BMI and alcohol consumption were also associated with renal cancer risk.

Summary: This study compared the performance of FITs for CRC detection between users and non-users of antiplatelet agents and warfarin using a large-scale population-based database. It found that users of antiplatelet agents had lower positive predictive values for CRC detection compared to non-users, while there were no significant differences for warfarin users.

Summary: Immunosuppressive therapy (IST) negatively affects the performance of interferon gamma release assays (IGRAs) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), supporting the need for IGRA screening before initiating IST. Using both an IGRA and tuberculin skin test (TST) in IBD patients on IST may improve the diagnosis rate of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).

Summary: A retrospective study in Korea found that a 14-day treatment regimen with tegoprazan-based triple therapy had a higher eradication rate for Helicobacter pylori infection compared to a 7-day regimen, with acceptable adverse events. These results suggest that a 14-day treatment regimen may be more suitable in regions with high clarithromycin resistance.

Summary: This study evaluated the associations between gastric cancer family history and colorectal cancer risk, as well as between colorectal cancer family history and gastric adenoma risk. The results showed that gastric cancer family history was associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer, while colorectal cancer family history was not associated with the risk of gastric cancer or gastric adenoma. However, individuals with family histories of both gastric cancer and colorectal cancer had a higher risk of gastric adenoma. The study suggests that family histories of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer may affect each other's neoplastic lesion risk.

Summary: This study found that early treatment of H. pylori infection is associated with a reduced risk of gastric cancer. The gap in gastric cancer risk between patients with and without a family history of gastric cancer widens as the age at H. pylori eradication increases. The findings suggest that early treatment of H. pylori infection can maximize gastric cancer prevention.

Summary: Recently, updated guidelines for post-polypectomy surveillance have been published by multiple societies, and this review summarizes and compares the recommendations of these guidelines. There are differences in the recommended surveillance intervals, particularly for different types of adenomas. Surveillance recommendations for patients with serrated polyps are limited, and more research is needed in this area.
