Summary: This study identified waist circumference as the most significant risk factor for predicting NAFLD in middle-aged and older Korean adults, with an optimal cutoff point of 81 cm for men and 78.5 cm for women. This finding has important implications for early detection and prevention of NAFLD.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of fatty liver index (FLI) on the incidence of heart failure (HF) using large cohort data from the Korean National Health Insurance health database. The results showed that FLI >= 60 was associated with higher HF incidence, and an increase in FLI score significantly increased the risk of HF.

Summary: Waist circumference is a significant predictor of adverse outcomes, and this study investigated the correlation between abdominal obesity patterns and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Data from 4467 adults without NAFLD were analyzed, and participants were classified into four groups based on their two-year waist circumference patterns. The results showed that persistent and progressed abdominal obesity were associated with a higher risk of NAFLD in both genders, while maintaining a lean waist circumference was more effective in preventing NAFLD in men.

Summary: High levels of plasma triglycerides, BMI, and waist circumference, individually and combined, are associated with an increased risk of clinically diagnosed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This study found that the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease increased in individuals with higher plasma triglycerides, BMI, and waist circumference over a 9.2-year follow-up period.

Summary: This study using data from the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort in Korea found that changes in body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were associated with cardiovascular risk in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Patients who experienced decreases in both BMI and WC or increased BMI and decreased WC had a lower risk of cardiovascular events.

Summary: This study revealed that individuals with the Hypertriglyceridemic-waist (HTGW) phenotype have a higher prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Compared to those with normal triglyceride (TG) and waist circumference levels, individuals with abnormal TG or waist circumference, as well as those with the HTGW phenotype, had significantly increased risk of developing NAFLD.

Summary: This study found that metabolically healthy obesity individuals were significantly associated with higher risks of NAFLD and its fibrosis progression. MHO individuals might still benefit from lifestyle interventions aimed at body weight and waist circumference maintenance for NAFLD prevention.

Summary: This study investigated the association between waist circumference (WC) changes and the incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results showed that an increasing WC trend was associated with a higher risk of NAFLD, independent of abdominal obesity status. Monitoring WC changes may help identify individuals at risk for NAFLD and promote lifestyle modifications for prevention.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) in assessing the risk for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Results showed that all three methods were comparable in evaluating the risk for NASH, with using BMI being acceptable in clinical settings.

Summary: This study found that higher than normal levels of HbA(1C) and waist circumference measurements can predict NAFLD, with HbA(1C) being a single risk factor strongly associated with NAFLD. Additionally, the severity of hepatic steatosis increases with higher levels of HbA(1C), BMI, and waist circumference.

Summary: The study examined the relationship between overweight and obesity in young adulthood and incident diabetes later in life, finding that elevated BMI and waist circumference during young adulthood were independently associated with later-life incident diabetes. Insulin resistance was identified as a key mediator in this association, with other factors such as high-density lipoproteins and triglycerides playing a smaller role.
