Summary: The study on obese adults showed that using an adjustable intragastric balloon combined with lifestyle intervention can significantly reduce weight and maintain it for 6 months. Adjusting the balloon volume allows for personalized therapy, maximizing weight loss and tolerance.

Summary: The goal of obesity management is to improve health, and sustained weight loss of more than 10% of overall bodyweight can achieve this. Lifestyle interventions, anti-obesity medications, and bariatric surgery are effective strategies to maintain weight loss and improve associated health outcomes. Recent therapeutic advances have led to the development of targeted treatments for monogenic obesities and a new generation of highly effective anti-obesity medications. Long-term studies are needed to assess the safety, efficacy, and cardiovascular outcomes of these treatments. Additionally, further research is required to determine optimal treatment strategies for individual patients and ensure access to effective treatments.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluates the effectiveness of a 6-month medical management period prior to bariatric surgery. The results show that patients experienced a decrease in BMI and weight during this period, although the weight loss did not reach the target of 10% of body weight.

Summary: Pediatric bariatric surgery is increasingly seen as a safe and effective option for managing obesity, but insurance coverage remains a key barrier. Research on insurance criteria for adolescents compared to adults revealed common requirements such as age, BMI, co-morbidities, participation in weight management programs, and multidisciplinary team support.

Summary: The study found that insurance-mandated precertification requirements for bariatric surgery do not reduce inpatient healthcare utilization in the first postoperative year. Among commercially insured individuals, patients without medical weight management requirements had lower all-cause rehospitalizations, while those without preoperative cardiology and pulmonology evaluations had higher rehospitalization rates.

Summary: The study evaluated the requirement for hypertension in insurance policies for bariatric surgery eligibility for patients with a BMI <40 kg/m(2) despite using >1 anti-hypertensive agents. It was found that patients treated with fewer than 3 anti-hypertensive medications did not have better blood pressure control preoperatively but were more likely to resolve hypertension postoperatively, suggesting that restricting access to bariatric surgery based on this requirement may not be supported.

Summary: The study found that behavioral weight management interventions conducted after metabolic and bariatric surgery can lead to greater decreases in weight and body mass index compared to interventions conducted before or both before and after surgery. However, there is high variability in study characteristics and risk of bias across trials.

Summary: This paper briefly introduces the current situation of bariatric and metabolic surgery as well as medical insurance payment in China. China's rapid economic growth has led to a significant increase in the prevalence of obesity and diabetes. However, there is a lack of social understanding of obesity in China, resulting in inadequate medical treatments and exclusion of obesity from the medical insurance payment system. Bariatric and metabolic surgery have been developed in China for almost 20 years, but there are regional and cognitive variations in medical insurance coverage. Recent research suggests that medical insurance coverage for weight-loss surgery can conserve healthcare system resources. It is important to raise public awareness, provide more clinical evidence, and strive for higher medical insurance reimbursement for obesity treatment and bariatric surgery.

Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of medical therapy, sleeve gastrectomy (SG), and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) in patients with severe obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The results showed that RYGB is the most cost-effective treatment strategy, resulting in the highest number of quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) in the long-term management of dyslipidemia, revealing that RYGB had higher remission rates after 4 years but required close monitoring to prevent relapse.

Summary: Revisional bariatric surgery is an option for patients with weight regain or inadequate weight loss after primary elective procedures. However, the safety outcomes of revisional procedures are conflicting. This study aims to characterize the patient demographics, procedure types, and safety outcomes for those undergoing revisional compared to initial bariatric interventions.

Summary: This retrospective study examined the relationship between completing an insurance-mandated weight management program (WMP) before bariatric surgery and postoperative outcomes. The results showed that completing the WMP did not improve postoperative weight loss potential and delayed access to surgery.

Summary: This study examined the changes in knowledge and attitudes of primary care practitioners (PCPs) towards bariatric procedures in Scotland. The results showed that PCPs believed bariatric surgery had a greater impact on weight management and obesity-related diseases. Although there was an increased awareness of local referral criteria and more referrals, there was still a lack of familiarity with national bariatric surgical guidelines. PCPs' comfort in managing post-operative bariatric surgical patients remained unchanged.

Summary: Research on weight bias in the bariatric population is limited. This study found that both experienced and internalized weight bias are associated with negative psychosocial and medical consequences. These findings highlight the need for more rigorous research to better understand the relationship between weight bias and bariatric surgery.

Summary: Metabolic surgery is more effective than conventional medical therapy in long-term control of type 2 diabetes. Even with hyperglycemia relapse, patients maintain adequate glycemic control at 10 years.
