Summary: Paid sick leave is associated with lower mortality risks and increased use of health services. However, the U.S. lacks a national law and not all employers offer paid leave, especially to low-wage workers. States have enacted paid sick-leave laws or preemption laws, leading to regulatory gaps in certain states. This creates substantial inequities nationally. A national paid sick-leave law should be enacted by the federal government.

Summary: Nurses' emotional exhaustion has a high prevalence regardless of the care setting, posing a threat to their health and negatively impacting organizations and society due to its relation to sick leave. Weekend work and quantitative demands are independent risk factors for exhaustion, while emotional demands and low team cooperation show context-specific correlations.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between sick leave length and mental morbidity across different occupational categories. The results showed that there were differences in sick leave lengths caused by substance use or other factors. There were no differences in sick leave duration among different working groups for mental illnesses attributable to drugs, but there were differences for mental disorders caused by other factors.

Summary: Exposure to electrical current may result in injury both physically and mentally, leading to decreased ability to work and increased visits to general practitioners. This study found that electrical injuries were associated with increased risk of long-term sick leave, low work participation, and more frequent contacts with GPs. Associations remained consistent over time and were slightly influenced by previous work participation and contacts with GPs.

Summary: This study identified risk factors for sickness absence in oil industry workers, including being female, older, non-graduated, overweight, obese, smoking, and former smoking. The study found that 6% of sickness absence in the population could be attributed to overweight, 10% to obesity, and 8% to smoking. Preventative programs focused on smoking cessation and healthy habits are recommended to reduce sick leave.

Summary: The focus on sustainable employability has gained more importance as the working population ages and the demand for labor exceeds supply, leading to a greater need for continued work at later ages. This highlights the urgency of reducing sick leave. The article discusses the need for sustainable return-to-work trajectories and explores the gaps between theory and practice in recovery and return-to-work, suggesting the importance of sufficient recovery time and a holistic approach.

Summary: The study found that the majority of service providers working with people experiencing homelessness have some amount of paid sick leave benefits, but there is a subset of younger individuals working part-time in the sector who do not have this benefit. It is recommended to temporarily expand paid sick leave benefits and remove waiting periods for new employees to qualify for benefits.

Summary: The study aims to assess the relationship between lifestyle risk factors and work ability, sick leave over time and within specific disease groups. The results showed that obesity, smoking, unhealthy diet were associated with long-term sick leave and poor work ability. A higher lifestyle risk score is linked to both sick leave and reduced work ability. Further studies on lifestyle interventions are needed to evaluate these associations.

Summary: The study found that the Wantai Total Ab assay targeting the receptor binding domain (RBD) within the S protein showed the best sensitivity at different stages of the disease. With the exception of the Euroimmun IgA assay, all other tests had clinical specificity greater than 95%. Some commercial serological assays demonstrated better agreement with the VNT compared to others, but they cannot replace the VNT for assessing functional antibody response.

Summary: The nasal IFN-I/III signature in mildly symptomatic COVID-19 patients correlates with serum IFN-a(2) levels, while critically ill patients with autoantibodies against IFN-I showed low nasal IFN-I/III scores despite high viral loads. Functional assays confirmed the role of autoantibodies in compromising the antiviral effects of IFN-I at the early stages of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Summary: The SCOPYD study identified a set of predictors of severe vitamin D deficiency that are easy to collect in routine, which may help better target patients for serum 25(OH)D concentration determination. The model showed a sensitivity of 77.9% and a specificity of 68.3% for predicting severe deficiency.

Summary: The study found that the majority of infected individuals had a viral load of less than 5.0 log(10) cp/mL (Ct value<25) within 8 days after symptom onset, with only 12% testing positive after 40 days (Ct>37). Furthermore, over 90% of cultivable virus had a viral load exceeding 4.5 log(10) cp/mL (Ct<26) within 10 days after symptom onset. Among SARS-CoV-2 negative healthcare workers, 3.2% seroconverted.

Summary: The study aimed to provide a French translation and adaptation of the Return to Work Self-Efficacy scale - 11 items (RTWSE-11) for assessing the psychological factor of cancer patients' return to work. Through translation-back translation steps and expert consensus meetings, the French version of the questionnaire was modified, involving the Likert scale and the inversion of negative items. The results indicated that the French translation and adaptation were faithful to the semantic and experiential aspects of the original version.

Summary: This study compared the antibody titers obtained with different commercial binding antibody assays after one or two doses of vaccine in healthcare workers. The results showed 100% seroconversion with all evaluated assays after two doses of vaccine. The antibody titers were correlated between assays allowing correction, but significant differences still persisted. Standardization of the assays should include the International Standard for uniform expression of results.
