Summary: Vitamin D is essential for bone health and preventing metabolic bone disorders. Vitamin D deficiency is common in Italy and supplementation with vitamin D2 or D3 is often recommended. However, studies on vitamin D intake in the Italian population are not well-designed and incomplete. This study aimed to validate a food questionnaire for assessing dietary vitamin D intake in Italians and found a low intake of vitamin D, which contributes to hypovitaminosis D.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between daily diet costs and HEFI-2019 scores, finding that individuals with higher daily diet costs were more likely to choose healthy foods and adhere to the recommendations of the healthy eating food guide. Furthermore, the study highlights the challenge of balancing affordability and healthfulness when developing national dietary guidelines.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between perceived barriers to healthy eating, food insecurity, sports nutrition knowledge, and dietary patterns among Army ROTC cadets. The findings showed that higher perceived personal, social, and access barriers were associated with less nutrient-dense eating patterns among the participants. Further research and interventions are needed to improve diet quality among ROTC cadets.

Summary: The objective of this project was to develop a brief self-administered dietary screener in both English and French to assess adults' dietary intake based on Canada's Food Guide recommendations. Through consultations with Health Canada and external advisors, guiding principles were established. Existing screeners were reviewed and mapped to the recommendations. Cognitive interviews were conducted to assess comprehension and validity. The resulting screener includes 16 questions for assessing alignment with healthy food choices.

Summary: Food-based dietary guidelines (FBDG) are important for promoting a healthy and sustainable diet. The adherence to national FBDG in the UK is low, and effective communication strategies are needed to improve this. This study identified key themes and made recommendations for improving the communication of FBDG, including revising language and tone, targeting specific population segments, addressing barriers and benefits, developing practical tools, and leveraging social media.

Summary: There are numerous weight loss diets available, but none have been proven to be superior. This creates confusion and conflicting nutrition information for consumers. In terms of diet quality, healthy eating principles scored higher than popular weight loss diets, with low carbohydrate diets scoring lower. The ranking system could serve as a reference point for future diet comparisons.

Summary: The study revealed a significant gap in sports nutrition knowledge (SNK) among elite Gaelic footballers, compared to practitioners. Team dietitians/nutritionists, athletic trainers/strength and conditioning coaches, and social media were identified as the main sources of nutrition information for players. The findings emphasize the importance of developing effective educational strategies to improve the nutritional knowledge and practices of Gaelic footballers.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a questionnaire assessing eating pleasure dimensions in the adult French-speaking population of Quebec, Canada. The researchers developed a 53-item questionnaire called the Eating Pleasure Questionnaire. The questionnaire underwent evaluation by an expert panel and a pre-test with French-speaking Quebecers. After validation with a sample of 300 Quebecers, the questionnaire showed good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity. Overall, the Eating Pleasure Questionnaire appears to be a valid tool for evaluating eating pleasure dimensions in this population.

Summary: This study aimed to verify whether adding single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified in the UK Biobank to a genetic risk score (GRS) developed in the Fatty Acid Sensor (FAS) Study improves its prediction capacity for plasma triglyceride (TG) response to omega-3 fatty acid (n-3 FA) supplementation. The results showed that adding new SNPs from the UK Biobank did not significantly improve the predictive capacity of the initial GRS31 for plasma TG response to n-3 FA supplementation. Therefore, GRS31 remains the most accurate tool for predicting individual responsiveness to n-3 FAs.

Summary: The study explored the impact of food addiction on treatment response and found that individuals with moderate/severe food addiction maintained higher maladaptive eating behaviors throughout the treatment compared to those with no/mild food addiction. However, baseline food addiction did not moderate the treatment response. The findings suggest that individuals with moderate/severe food addiction may benefit from longer treatment duration.
