Objective: The present study aimed to develop and validate a nutrition knowledge questionnaire in a sample of French Canadians from the province of Quebec, taking into account dietary guidelines. Design: A thirty-eight-item questionnaire was developed by the research team and evaluated for content validity by an expert panel, and then administered to respondents. Face validity and construct validity were measured in a pre-test. Exploratory factor analysis and covariance structure analysis were performed to verify the structure of the questionnaire and identify problematic items. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were evaluated through a validation study. Setting: Online survey. Subjects: Six nutrition and psychology experts, fifteen registered dietitians (RD) and 180 lay people participated. Results: Content validity evaluation resulted in the removal of two items and reformulation of one item. Following face validity, one item was reformulated. Construct validity was found to be adequate, with higher scores for RD v. non-RD (21.5 (SD 2.1) v. 15.7 (SD 3.0) out of 24, P< 0.001). Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the questionnaire contained only one factor. Covariance structure analysis led to removal of sixteen items. Internal consistency for the overall questionnaire was adequate (Cronbach's alpha = 0.73). Assessment of test-retest reliability resulted in significant associations for the total knowledge score (r = 0.59, P < 0.001). Conclusions: This nutrition knowledge questionnaire was found to be a suitable instrument which can be used to measure levels of nutrition knowledge in a Canadian population. It could also serve as a model for the development of similar instruments in other populations.

Assessing the impact of replacing foods high in saturated fats with foods high in unsaturated fats on dietary fat intake among Canadians

Stephanie Harrison, Simone Lemieux, Benoit Lamarche

Summary: This study suggests that the consumption of SFA would be reduced below 10% E in Canada if all Canadians adhered to the recommendation of the 2019 Canada's Food Guide to replace foods containing mostly SFA with foods containing mostly UFA.

Nutrigenetics, omega-3 and plasma lipids/lipoproteins/apolipoproteins with evidence evaluation using the GRADE approach: a systematic review

Summary: This review evaluates the association between nutrigenetic factors and the response of plasma lipids and lipoproteins to omega-3 fatty acid intake. The evidence is limited overall, but strong evidence suggests specific gene-diet interactions in certain populations.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a questionnaire assessing eating pleasure dimensions in the adult French-speaking population of Quebec, Canada. The researchers developed a 53-item questionnaire called the Eating Pleasure Questionnaire. The questionnaire underwent evaluation by an expert panel and a pre-test with French-speaking Quebecers. After validation with a sample of 300 Quebecers, the questionnaire showed good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity. Overall, the Eating Pleasure Questionnaire appears to be a valid tool for evaluating eating pleasure dimensions in this population.

Adhering to Canada's Food Guide Recommendations on Healthy Food Choices Increases the Daily Diet Cost: Insights from the PREDISE Study

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between daily diet costs and HEFI-2019 scores, finding that individuals with higher daily diet costs were more likely to choose healthy foods and adhere to the recommendations of the healthy eating food guide. Furthermore, the study highlights the challenge of balancing affordability and healthfulness when developing national dietary guidelines.

Eating behaviour traits mediate the association between satiety responsiveness and energy intake among individuals with overweight and obesity

Raphaelle Jacob, Veronique Provencher, Shirin Panahi, Angelo Tremblay, Vicky Drapeau

Summary: This study aimed to assess if eating behaviours mediate the association between satiety responsiveness and energy intake. The results suggest that susceptibility to hunger and food cravings partly explain the susceptibility to overeating among individuals with low satiety responsiveness.

Update of a Genetic Risk Score Predictive of the Plasma Triglyceride Response to an Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation in the FAS Study

Ellie Gauthier, Juan de Toro-Martin, Bastien Vallee-Marcotte, Simone Lemieux, Iwona Rudkowska, Patrick Couture, Marie-Claude Vohl

Summary: This study aimed to verify whether adding single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified in the UK Biobank to a genetic risk score (GRS) developed in the Fatty Acid Sensor (FAS) Study improves its prediction capacity for plasma triglyceride (TG) response to omega-3 fatty acid (n-3 FA) supplementation. The results showed that adding new SNPs from the UK Biobank did not significantly improve the predictive capacity of the initial GRS31 for plasma TG response to n-3 FA supplementation. Therefore, GRS31 remains the most accurate tool for predicting individual responsiveness to n-3 FAs.

Group therapy to reduce maladaptive eating behaviors in people with overweight or obesity: Does food addiction impact the treatment response?

Maxime Legendre, Catherine Begin

Summary: The study explored the impact of food addiction on treatment response and found that individuals with moderate/severe food addiction maintained higher maladaptive eating behaviors throughout the treatment compared to those with no/mild food addiction. However, baseline food addiction did not moderate the treatment response. The findings suggest that individuals with moderate/severe food addiction may benefit from longer treatment duration.

Childhood sexual abuse and food addiction severity in a clinical sample of individuals with overweight or obesity

Summary: This study found a higher risk of FA in individuals reporting CSA in a clinical sample and provided evidence that factors such as the relationship with the abuser, type of sexual abuse, and number of abuses are relevant. Additionally, in individuals with FA, the presence or absence of CSA did not influence depressive level, body esteem, dieting/weight preoccupations, or BMI.

Summary: This study analysed the gene-environment interactions in genome-wide association studies related to metabolic syndrome phenotypes, highlighting alcohol consumption, sleep time, smoking habit, and physical activity as the most studied environmental factors with significant interactions. Advances in omics-related analytical and computational approaches have improved understanding of the biological processes underlying these interactions.

Summary: The Adult Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (AEBQ), adapted from the Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire, assesses food approach and avoidance scales among French-speaking adults in Quebec. The French version of AEBQ showed good model fit, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity. The questionnaire is reliable and valid for measuring eating behaviors in the adult population of Quebec.
