Summary: This study applied EIM to assess the electrical properties of the lumbar paraspinal muscle in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) and healthy individuals. The results showed that the CLBP group had significantly higher electrical impedance values compared to the healthy control (HC) group, with decreased phase angle. The altered electrical properties of the lumbar paraspinal muscle in CLBP patients were correlated to some extent with disability in daily life.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of pharmacopuncture and physical therapy in treating chronic lower back pain. The results showed that pharmacopuncture significantly reduced pain and improved functional outcomes and quality of life, compared to physical therapy. Therefore, pharmacopuncture could be recommended as a treatment option for patients with chronic lower back pain.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to clarify the health-related quality of life (QOL) of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) at a minimum of 40 years after surgery. The study found that the QOL of these patients remained good over the last 13 years, indicating relatively good QOL for middle-aged and older patients.

Summary: This study investigates the construct validity of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Physical Function 4a (PROMIS-PF4) questionnaire in low back pain (LBP) patients. The results show that PROMIS-PF4 has strong convergent validity with the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and moderate convergent validity with the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). However, its discriminative validity is good for disability and high risk of persisting disability, but poor or no discriminative validity for pain intensity and low-risk of persisting disability. The PROMIS-PF4 questionnaire is deemed to have adequate construct validity for measuring pain-related disability in LBP patients receiving chiropractic care.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the accuracy of the Oswestry Disability Questionnaire and its total score ODI, reveal characteristics of ODI-8 related to sexual function, and evaluate risk factors for postoperative sexual function aggravation. Results showed that almost a quarter of patients skipped the ODI-8, and age, spinal deformity, and ASA-PS score 3/4 were identified as significant risk factors for worsening ODI-8 postoperatively.

The RMDQ-Am showed good internal consistency, excellent test-retest reliability, and moderate negative correlation with SF-36 subscales. This tool can be used in clinical and research settings to measure disability related to low back pain in Ethiopian population.

Summary: Patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain commonly exhibit fear-avoidance beliefs, which are correlated with their pain and functional status. Medical practitioners tend to prescribe drug-based treatments, while physiotherapists use a combination of passive and active treatments. Continuing professional training and risk factor assessment have a positive impact on therapeutic choices.

Summary: Treatment for lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS) can be conservative or surgical. This study aimed to examine the impact of lumbar surgery on pharmacological treatment for patients with LSCS. Summary: Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are important for shared decision making and research, but there is a lack of consensus on which PROs and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to use in diabetes. This narrative review provides recommendations for relevant PROs to measure, such as disease-specific symptoms and general symptoms, and suggests the use of generic PROMs supplemented with disease-specific PROMs. However, further validation studies are needed for diabetes-specific PROMs. Standardization and use of psychometrically sound PROMs can improve healthcare for people with diabetes.

Summary: The minimal important difference (MID) is the smallest change or difference that patients perceive as important to interpret patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) scores. A credibility instrument for anchor-based MID assessment typically includes a core item evaluating the correlation between the PROM and the anchor. However, many MID studies do not report this correlation. To address this, we developed an alternative construct proximity item to assess credibility when the correlation is lacking.

Summary: The study aimed to develop and validate approaches for mapping Oswestry Disability Index responses to 3-level version of EQ-5D utility values and evaluate their impact on cost-utility results compared with published regression models. Three response mapping approaches were developed and their performance was assessed. The results suggest that the developed approaches are not valid for estimating individual patients' utility values and may significantly affect cost-utility results.

Summary: This systematic review found that combined lifestyle interventions are not superior to usual care for improving physical functioning, relieving pain, and improving lifestyle outcomes in overweight or obese individuals with persistent low-back pain. However, these interventions are likely to be more cost-effective in terms of healthcare, medication, and absenteeism costs compared to usual care.

Higher self-efficacy, female gender, and a middle educational level were associated with better activation for self-management in these patients. Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of stratified blended physiotherapy (e-Exercise LBP) compared with face-to-face physiotherapy in patients with nonspecific low back pain (LBP). The study found no significant differences between the two treatment methods in terms of physical functioning and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs). However, stratified blended physiotherapy showed significant improvements in fear avoidance beliefs. Although the costs were higher for stratified blended physiotherapy, there were no significant differences compared to face-to-face physiotherapy.
