Summary: This study evaluated the impact of a quality improvement program (QIP) on hospital mortality in the largest cardiac surgery center in Latin America. The implementation of the QIP was associated with a reduction in length of hospital stay, complications, and mortality after the analyzed cardiac surgeries compared to the non-QIP group.

Summary: The study found that most women on thyroid replacement before conception had TSH measured during pregnancy, but a portion did not. Overtreatment with levothyroxine in pregnancy was associated with preterm delivery, highlighting the need for clinicians to avoid overtreatment during pregnancy.

Summary: This study compared the clinical and radiological outcomes of AIS patients receiving different treatment methods (BT vs dMT). The results showed that the BT group had better clinical outcomes at day seven, but there was no significant difference between the two groups in other indicators (puncture to revascularization time, successful revascularization, FPE, etc.). There were also no differences in 90-day favorable outcomes, mortality rate, or hemorrhagic transformation rate. Therefore, it may be reasonable to go directly to mechanical thrombectomy without IVT for AIS patients with large vessel occlusion.

Summary: The trial involving European patients did not show that endovascular treatment alone was either superior or noninferior to the combination of intravenous alteplase followed by endovascular treatment. The disability outcomes and incidence of intracerebral hemorrhage at 90 days were similar in both groups.

Summary: Applying a quality management tool aimed at continuous improvement can effectively reduce pre-operative liquid fasting times. Measures such as training, fasting cards, and information dissemination have shown positive effects. Repeated application of these improvement cycles, adapted to the local context, can sustainably reduce fasting times.

Summary: The prevalence of EIBF among teenage mothers was low, so a 15-month QI intervention was conducted to improve the prevalence to at least 90%. Six PDSA cycles consisting of multiple interventions were conducted over the course of a month each, and the rate of improvement in EIBF was noted and plotted over time. After six months of follow-up, the prevalence of EIBF was sustained at around 100%.

Summary: Pediatric convulsive status epilepticus (cSE) is a neurologic emergency that requires rapid and timely treatment to prevent complications and improve patient outcomes. Delays in treatment and inadequate dosing pose challenges for effective seizure control, both in out-of-hospital and in-hospital settings. This review provides evidence-based recommendations for the timely use of first-line benzodiazepine (BZD) treatment followed by prompt escalation to second-line therapies, and discusses the logistical challenges and opportunities for improvement in the initial treatment of cSE.

Summary: This study describes how a multimodal approach to redesigning electronic ordering tools improved blood utilization in a pediatric inpatient setting. The results show that electronic health record design is crucial in reducing waste and preventing unnecessary crossmatching, and time series analysis is an effective tool for evaluating the long-term impact of interventions.
