Artificial Neural Pathway Based on a Memristor Synapse for Optically Mediated Motion Learning

Ke He, Yaqing Liu, Jiancan Yu, Xintong Guo, Ming Wang, Liandong Zhang, Changjin Wan, Ting Wang, Changjiu Zhou, Xiaodong Chen

Summary: The paper presents an artificial neural pathway based on a memristor synapse, which converts optical stimulations into electrical signals and implements synaptic functions of learning and memory. The pathway is used to direct a robotic arm to perform specific motions, demonstrating its potential in the design of intelligent autonomous devices and bioinspired robots through memristor-based systems.

Strain-Driven Auto-Detachable Patterning of Flexible Electrodes

Zhisheng Lv, Changxian Wang, Changjin Wan, Renheng Wang, Xiangyu Dai, Jiaqi Wei, Huarong Xia, Wenlong Li, Wei Zhang, Shengkai Cao, Feilong Zhang, Haiyue Yang, Xian Jun Loh, Xiaodong Chen

Summary: This paper presents a shrinkage-assisted patterning method for fabricating multilayer, multimaterial, and conformal electrodes. The method utilizes evaporation-induced strain mismatch to print high-resolution, patterned, and multilayer electrodes. The electrodes can auto-detach from the filtration membrane due to the mismatch between the electrode and membrane strains. The method shows potential for high-energy density micro-supercapacitors and stable digital circuits on deformed surfaces.

Summary: This study established a wireless triggered local electrical stimulation system to induce neuronal differentiation from rat bone-marrow-derived MSCs by using a highly conductive and flexible multi-wall carbon nanotube membrane combined with a rotating magnetic field. The system successfully generated well-differentiated neurons without nerve-inducing factors and showed promising effects in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Resilient conductive membrane synthesized by in-situ polymerisation for wearable non-invasive electronics on moving appendages of cyborg insect

Qifeng Lin, Rui Li, Feilong Zhang, Kazuki Kai, Zong Chen Ong, Xiaodong Chen, Hirotaka Sato

Summary: By combining insects with microcontrollers, cyborg insects have been developed for various practical applications by utilizing their high mobility and small size. However, the current cyborg insects rely on implanted electrodes which cause irreversible damage to their organs and muscles. In this study, a non-invasive method using conformal electrodes with in-situ polymerized ion-conducting and electron-conducting layers is developed to overcome these issues.
