Summary: This study evaluated the effects of a novel 3D printed bilateral arytenoid abductor on laryngeal airway resistance in canine cadaver larynges. The results showed that the bilateral arytenoid abductor reduced laryngeal resistance when the epiglottis was open, and there was no loss of laryngeal resistance when the device abducted the arytenoid cartilages with the epiglottis closed.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the SLN mapping of MCTs with radiographic indirect lymphography and compare it with RLN. The results showed that radiographic indirect lymphography can detect at least one SLN in 90% of MCTs in dogs and the lymph drainage pattern may vary for each MCT, involving multiple SLNs.

Summary: This article describes a novel method for automated necrosis detection in whole slide images using deep learning AI. By testing on a canine soft tissue sarcoma dataset, the optimized DenseNet-161 model demonstrated state-of-the-art performance, representing a significant step forward in reproducible and reliable necrosis assessment for improving the precision of tumor grading.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the formation of atelectasis during HFJV in patients undergoing liver tumour ablation under general anaesthesia. The results showed that atelectasis increased over the first 45 minutes of HFJV but had no impact on normoinflated lung volume.

Summary: Thoracolumbar intervertebral disc extrusion (TL-IVDE) is a common cause of paraparesis and paraplegia in dogs, but current guidelines for its management are lacking. The majority of available literature consists of observational studies and most recommendations are supported by low or moderate evidence. Further research is needed to understand the optimal timing for surgical decompression, outcomes for mildly affected dogs, impact of durotomy on locomotor outcome and myelomalacia, postoperative care, and genetic and preventative care studies.

Summary: This study presents a novel solution for improving the pull-out strength of intramedullary pin fixation of canine femur bone fractures through parametric optimization. Computer-assisted preoperative surgical planning and 3D printing techniques were used to optimize the design of the implant, leading to better mechanical properties. The results highlight the importance of angle and number of engaged threads in achieving optimal mechanical performance.

Summary: Tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) are identified and counted in canine soft tissue sarcomas (STSs), showing a positive correlation between TAM numbers and histologic grade. TAMs are more abundant in higher grade STSs, leading to a potential risk of misdiagnosis as histiocytic sarcoma by pathologists.

Summary: Changes in collagen fibers in different types of canine mammary gland carcinomas are directly associated with tumor behavior and survival time. These changes could serve as a useful tool in diagnosis.

Summary: This study explores the effects of immune stress on tumour development using a new model of CTVTs called MCTVTs. Inoculation of CTVTs and MCTVTs into beagle dogs showed that MCTVTs grew faster and metastasized more frequently than CTVTs. Gene expression analysis revealed that MCTVTs expressed several tumour-promoting genes and overexpressed tumour-associated biomarkers. The study concludes that defective host immunity can result in gene instability and transcriptome reprogramming, facilitating tumour progression and providing potential biomarkers for cancer research.

Summary: This study investigates the distribution and expression of the tumor transcription factor GLI1 and the downstream proteins, Bmi1 and Sox2, in canine mammary tumors and paracancerous tissues. The results suggest that GLI1 and related proteins play an important role in regulating the proliferation and differentiation of tumors.

Summary: Male dogs are at four to five times greater risk of developing primary oronasal CTVT than females, possibly due to sex differences in licking and sniffing activity and CTVT accessibility for these behaviors.

Summary: This study quantified TAMs in 60 canine malignant mammary tumors and found that the presence of M2-polarized TAMs was associated with tumor development and disease progression. CD204 expression may serve as a potential prognostic factor for these tumors.
