Summary: Residential moves due to climate-related disasters can have significant impacts on mental health. This study in Banjarnegara, Indonesia, found that displacement after landslides was associated with positive changes in economic stability, optimism, safety, religiosity, and community closeness. Factors such as age, sex, education level, income, employment, and landslide characteristics also influenced the likelihood of relocation.

Summary: People depend on functioning ecosystems for essential services that support human health and well-being, making biodiversity loss a significant concern. Understanding the species and traits that contribute to well-being responses is a critical question. This study analyzes a database of species' effect traits and their impacts on various types of well-being.

Summary: The direct and indirect well-being benefits of children and adolescents' nature connectedness are of increasing interest to society and the field of research is evolving rapidly. However, there is significant variation in the conceptualization and operationalization of nature connectedness, well-being, and their interaction, as well as the empirical methods used to analyze them. A systematic literature review was conducted to examine how children's nature connectedness and its impact on well-being have been studied during the past two decades. The analysis covered qualitative and quantitative studies, all of which showed positive effects of nature connectedness on well-being. Recommendations for future research are provided to address current gaps and guide societal development in supporting children's well-being.

Summary: Brain health is crucial for physical and mental health, social well-being, productivity, and creativity. Current neurological research focuses on treating diseased brains and preventing further deterioration rather than on developing and maintaining brain health. Interdisciplinary collaboration may shed light on the interconnectedness of physical, mental, environmental, and socioeconomic determinants of brain disease and health.

Summary: Ambitious conservation efforts are necessary to address the global biodiversity crisis. This study estimates the minimum land area required to protect important biodiversity areas, ecologically intact areas, and optimal locations for representation of species ranges and ecoregions. At least 64 million square kilometers of land would need conservation attention, which is 44% of the terrestrial area. Immediate action is needed as 1.3 million square kilometers of this land is at risk of conversion for intensive human land uses by 2030.

Summary: The study found that in Japan, urban land, water, and grassland are positively related to human well-being, while bare land is negatively associated. A 1 m2 increase in the area of urban land per capita in a city is equivalent to an about 346 USD increase in the individual annual income of all the people in the city.

Summary: Using satellite nighttime lights and world settlement data, researchers found that 19% of global settlement areas had no artificial radiance associated with them. Africa had the majority of unlit settlement areas, accounting for 39%, rising to 65% in rural areas, as well as numerous unlit areas in the Middle East and Asia. Developed countries also had significant unlit settlement areas. The percent of unlit settlement areas was used to predict and map the wealth class of households in 49 countries with an overall accuracy of 87%.
