Summary: Degenerative changes of RPE triggered by TGF-beta 2 and oxidative stress play a critical role in AMD progression. The expression of antiaging protein alpha-klotho declines with age, increasing the risk of age-related diseases. Alpha-klotho protects against TGF-beta 2-induced RPE degeneration and EMT both in vitro and in vivo. It inhibits TGF-beta 2 signaling, EMT, oxidative stress, and senescence-associated signaling.

Summary: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is caused by prolonged inflammation of the paranasal sinus mucosa. In this study, TIM-4 was found to be increased in the sinonasal mucosa of CRSwNP patients, especially in macrophages. TIM-4 was positively correlated with clinical scores and inhibition of TIM-4 reduced polyp formation and EMT.

Summary: EMT plays a crucial role in the development of lung cancer, and targeting EMT could inhibit cancer cell invasion and metastasis. This study found that combination treatment with erlotinib and cilengitide showed enhanced inhibitory effects on EMT in lung cancer cells, suggesting that cilengitide could improve the efficacy of anticancer drugs and contribute to improved treatment strategies for inhibiting EMT-based cancer progression.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of lncRNA SND1-IT1, miR-124, and COL4A1 gene on TGF-beta 1-induced EMT in gastric cancer (GC). Through the analysis of tissue samples and experiments on HGC-27 cells, the results demonstrated that TGF-beta 1 can regulate cancer cell migration, invasion, and stimulate EMT through the SND1-IT1/miR-124/COL4A1 axis in GC.

Summary: Acacetin inhibits proliferation, invasion, and migration of human gastric cancer cells by regulating EMT-related proteins. It reverses morphological changes induced by TGF-beta 1 and restricts invasion and migration by regulating EMT. Acacetin also suppresses PI3K/Akt signaling and delays metastasis in vivo.

Summary: In this study, it was found that DGM could inhibit TGF-beta 1-induced EMT in A549 cells and bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats. Furthermore, DGM treatment improved lung function, reduced lung inflammation and fibrosis, and decreased collagen deposition.

Summary: Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) causes the transformation of epithelial cells into a mesenchymal-like phenotype, leading to loss of cell-to-cell contact and increased motility/invasive capabilities. This process is important in inflammation and cancer progression, driven by factors such as TGF-beta 1. However, myo-inositol can reverse the EMT process induced by TGF-beta 1 and restore the epithelial phenotype.

Summary: Copper is an essential trace element for living organisms, but over-exposure can lead to adverse health effects. Research found that copper sulfate treatment induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice, activating multiple signaling pathways and causing epithelial-mesenchymal transition. This study reveals the mechanism of copper-induced pulmonary toxicity through EMT induced by TGF-beta 1/Smad and MAPKs pathways.
