Summary: Twenty-one new coumarin Mannich base derivatives were synthesized, showing antiproliferative activities against liver, lung, breast, and colon cancer cells. Compound 11g exhibited the strongest antiproliferative and nitric oxide release activity in HepG2 cells, even surpassing the positive control drug 5-FU. It also showed increased solubility and low cytotoxicity against normal liver cells. Furthermore, compound 11g induced apoptosis in HepG2 cells in a concentration-dependent manner.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the synthesis of novel bi-substituted coumarin-based symmetrical compounds (A1-A6) via a simple two-step reaction and investigates their liquid crystalline properties. The compounds exhibit different types of liquid crystalline properties depending on the alkyl chains substituted on the coumarin core. The synthesis method of these coumarin-based mesogens is simpler compared to other coumarin-based mesogens, and one of the compounds shows promising anticoagulant activity.

Summary: A series of coumarin acrolein hybrids were synthesized and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity. Results showed that most compounds displayed remarkable inhibitory activity against cancer cells with low cytotoxicity on normal cells. Compound 6e exhibited the most promising activity against different cancer cell lines and induced apoptosis through the PI3K/AKT-mediated Bcl-2 signaling pathway. These findings suggest that 3-(coumarin-3-yl)-acrolein derivatives have potential as novel anticancer chemotherapeutic candidates.

Summary: This study investigated the inhibitory potential of acetylcholinesterase enzyme (AChE) and antioxidant activity of ten different coumarin derivatives. The results showed that all compounds exhibited inhibitory activity on AChE, with compounds 1, 3, and 2 showing the highest activity. Compound 7 showed strong inhibition of AChE, similar to the standard galantamine. Additionally, compound 7 demonstrated the highest antioxidant activity among all tested compounds. The pharmacokinetic properties of the compounds were also evaluated, suggesting that coumarins, particularly compound 7, may be potential candidates for treating Alzheimer's disease and as future antioxidant agents.

Summary: New dendrimers were synthesized from PPI and PAMAM dendrimers using an efficient acid-base reaction with various phenolic acids, and the syntheses were optimized in both microwave and microfluidic reactors. These dendrimers, which are ionic and hydrophilic, exhibited excellent antioxidant properties and showed cytotoxic effects on fibroblast dermal cells.

Summary: Camellia fascicularis is a unique plant rich in bioactive components. In this study, sequential extraction with solvents of different polarity was used to isolate active substances in C. fascicularis leaves. The antioxidant and antitumor activities of the extracts were determined. The results showed that different polar extracts had different chemical compositions and biological activities. The water extract exhibited the strongest antitumor activity.

Summary: In this study, seven bisimidazole-coumarin conjugates were synthesized and their biomedical properties, including anti-tumorous, anti-bacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, and anticoagulant activities, were evaluated. The conjugates showed promising and broad biomedical effects, with one conjugate exhibiting potent antineoplastic effects and free radical quenching abilities, while another showed strong antimicrobial activity against various pathogens. Overall, conjugate Y7 may have potential as an antineoplastic agent, while conjugate Y1 could serve as a potent broad-spectrum antimicrobial compound without anticoagulant activity.

Summary: In this study, F. oxysporum GU-7 and GU-60 were isolated from Glycyrrhiza uralensis, and their antioxidant activities were found to be significantly different. Metabolomics analysis identified abundant dipeptides, phenolic acids, and plant-derived coumarins in GU-7, which may account for its stronger antioxidant activity compared to GU-60. The study also identified key genes and intermediate metabolites involved in coumarin biosynthesis.

Summary: 3-acetyl coumarin derivatives (1a-d) were synthesized by condensation of salicylaldehyde derivatives and ethyl acetoacetate, then converted into coumarin-selenophene hybrid compounds (2a-d) by modified Gewald reaction in basic medium with malononitrile and selenium. The products were characterized by NMR. These compounds were screened for anticancer activity against DU-145 cell line, and selected compounds were evaluated for apoptosis and oxidative stress on DU-145 (prostate carcinoma) cell lines.

Summary: In this study, pH-sensitive and redox-responsive folic acid-modified metal-organic frameworks (FA-MOF/But) were designed and constructed as drug carriers for Bufalin. It was found that these nanoparticles showed improved water solubility, stability, intracellular uptake, and cytotoxicity compared to the free Bufalin. In addition, the FA-MOF/But nanoparticles also demonstrated enhanced anticancer activity, reduced side effects, and improved accumulation at the tumor site in vivo.
