Summary: In order to better understand the causes of hypophosphatemia in children, a study was conducted on 29,279 phosphate tests from 21,398 patients over an 18 year period. It was found that endocrinopathies, tumors, and vitamin D deficiency were commonly associated with mild hypophosphatemia, but the cause was unclear in many cases. Among patients with endocrinopathies, those with diabetes mellitus had lower mean serum phosphate levels compared to other conditions. It was also observed that hypophosphatemia is often neglected and inadequately evaluated by pediatricians, highlighting the need for more education and awareness about this condition.

Summary: Children with rare neurodevelopmental genetic conditions (ND-GCs) have a higher risk of sleep symptomatology, particularly insomnia, compared to controls. The sleep phenotype of children with ND-GCs was characterized, and subgroups of children were identified based on sleep symptoms. These high-risk subgroups were also found to have a significantly increased risk of psychiatric outcomes. Early intervention strategies targeting sleep profiles could help mitigate psychiatric risk in this population.

Summary: The incidence of mental health conditions among children with congenital heart disease (CHD) is higher than the general population, particularly among males and those with severe or single-ventricle CHD. Early intervention and mental health support may be especially important for these at-risk populations.

Summary: Children with specific learning disorder (SLD) exhibit worse gait performance under single and dual-task conditions compared to typically developing (TD) children. They also show higher cognitive cost in dual-task situations. This study highlights the importance of interventions focusing on multitasking to improve walking skills in children with SLD.

Summary: This article reports on a pilot study of a parent-only cognitive behavioural therapy program for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and anxiety difficulties. The results indicate significant reductions in both parent and clinician reports of child anxiety symptoms, as well as positive gains in parents' ability to manage their child's anxiety without accommodating to it. The study provides preliminary evidence of the effectiveness of parent-only CBT programs for children with ASD.

Summary: The study found an association between umbilical cord leptin levels and autistic symptoms in children, while maternal metabolic conditions did not directly influence the outcome. Prenatal pro-inflammatory environments affected by maternal metabolic conditions may contribute to the development of autistic symptoms in children.

Summary: Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a relatively new disease that can affect people of all ages. It is characterized by a lack of interest in eating or avoidance of food intake, leading to nutritional deficiencies and impaired psychosocial functioning. Treatment may involve hospitalization and multispecialty care.

Summary: This study examined the association between mood and anxiety syndromes with physical conditions, revealing differential associations of specific mood-anxiety profiles with headaches, heart problems, and back/neck pain. Subtyping depression and anxiety may facilitate research and intervention work in multimorbidity.

Summary: Disorders or differences of sexual development affect a significant number of individuals and can lead to various conditions, such as Turner syndrome and gonadal dysgenesis. Hormone therapy is often used to induce and maintain development of secondary sexual characteristics, but it may increase the risk of breast cancer. It is important to provide appropriate breast cancer treatment and screening for this patient group.

Summary: This study examined factors predictive of successfully obtaining neuroimaging data in pediatric brain imaging. Age was identified as the strongest predictor, with younger children having lower success rates. Sensorimotor atypicalities also contributed significantly to the prediction of success in obtaining scans.

Summary: The persistence of drug-resistant cancer cells is a major clinical challenge, particularly in triple-negative breast cancer. This study reveals that the repressive histone mark H3K27me3 plays a crucial role in regulating cell fate and chemotherapy tolerance in cancer cells. Manipulating H3K27me3 levels effectively enhances the potential of cancer cells to tolerate chemotherapy and delays tumor recurrence. These findings underscore the importance of understanding chromatin landscapes in shaping cancer cell response to initial therapy.
