Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of elevated extracellular potassium ([K+](E)) on NGF-deprived sympathetic neurons, showing that [K+](E) primarily prevents apoptosis through an antioxidant mechanism and partially through the inhibition of upregulation of BIMEL. Additionally, it was found that [K+](E) increased cellular antioxidant glutathione levels, leading to the prevention of cytochrome c release and cell death.

Summary: In this study, a series of novel derivatives of betulinic acid (BA) and oleanolic acid (OA) were synthesized and evaluated for their anticancer properties. The results showed that two derivatives of OA exhibited the strongest antitumor activity against three human cancer cell lines. Further experiments revealed that these derivatives induced apoptosis in the cells through activation of the intrinsic apoptotic pathways mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and caspase-3 signaling.

Summary: Intracellular reactive oxygen species and reactive sulfur play important roles in redox homeostasis. SO2 has emerged as a vital gas signal molecule with potential reducing and oxidative stress-inducing properties. This study designed the first dual-site fluorescent sensor NIR-GYf for the separate or continuous detection of SO2 and ONOO-. The sensor successfully imaged endogenous SO2 and ONOO- in cells. Western blotting analysis confirmed the oxidation and antioxidation of SO2 and its dual biological influence. NIR-GYf was further integrated with multiple Boolean logic operations to enable direct analysis of SO2 and ONOO- levels.
