Summary: The study described the initial implementation of the SIMPL app in pediatric urology rotation, the first among urology residencies, and provided preliminary data on its adoption by residents and faculty. Results showed that the application improved both frequency and quality of resident operative feedback, with positive feedback from both faculty and residents, indicating it was preferred over existing feedback systems.

Summary: Assessing trainees' surgical proficiency is important in urological surgical training. The current standard, Urology Milestone Project, has limitations and lacks real-time operative feedback. There are multiple competency-based surgical assessment tools available, and a comprehensive review of the literature is needed to analyze their strengths and weaknesses for further development of a standardized assessment tool in urology training.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the characteristics of US medical schools associated with successful urology match applicants. Data on demographics and bibliometrics were collected for 1814 current urology residents attending a US-based ACGME Accredited program over a 6-year period. The presence of a home urology program and pre-residency h-index had the strongest correlation with producing urology residents.

Summary: The online patient educational materials (PEMs) related to radiation safety are still written at higher than recommended reading levels. Radiologist training is crucial in providing guidance to patients on radiation safety. Improving the readability of online PEMs can enhance radiology-patient communication and encourage a shift towards a patient-centered model of practice.

Summary: Despite having robust radiation safety education procedures and policies, our vascular surgery residency and fellowship program trainees exceeded the annual radiation exposure limits. We conducted a quality improvement project to identify the root causes and implemented interventions to improve radiation safety education, oversite, and trainee exposure levels. The interventions, including policy changes, curriculum improvements, and equipment updates, were successful in reducing radiation exposure, particularly at a specific hospital site.

Summary: The study assessed the short-term safety and feasibility of robotic reconstructive and extirpative procedures as scheduled outpatient surgeries for pediatric urological conditions. The majority of patients underwent pyeloplasty or extravesical ureteral reimplantation. The results showed that in the majority of patients, these procedures can be safely performed as outpatient surgeries, eliminating the need for routine inpatient care.

Summary: The recent shift towards telehealth and remote learning has significantly impacted resident and fellow education in urology. Implementation of multi-institutional online didactic programs has changed the traditional resident teaching paradigm and increased access to national and international experts. Collaborative remote video didactics have become a critical part of resident education in urology, offering successful lectures with easy access for learners.

Summary: The study assesses the exposure of urology trainees to transperineal prostate biopsy (TP-Bx) and their intention to use TP-Bx in practice. Less than half of the surveyed trainees reported exposure to TP-Bx, with significant differences among countries. The study suggests that greater experience with TP-Bx during training is associated with a higher intention to perform TP-Bx in practice. The authors recommend setting a minimum requirement for TP-Bx cases during urological training to increase trainees' familiarity and adoption of this approach.

Summary: Safety education plays a crucial role in preventing accidents and casualties in modern society. However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of e-learning in safety education. This study aims to predict the factors affecting the learning outcomes of online laboratory safety education (OLSE). The results reveal that attitude toward online education and satisfaction significantly and positively predict the intention to use OLSE. Respondents prefer e-learning for safety education to avoid the stress and inconvenience of traditional training. Negative perceptions of education and lack of motivation are identified as the root causes of low effectiveness. This study highlights the need to increase learner motivation and improve legislation for mandated online safety education.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the level of radiation safety knowledge and training among medical trainees and attending physicians. Medical students had a lower rate (41.9%) of receiving radiation safety training compared to attending physicians (14.9%). Attending physicians and residents had more frequent exposure to radiation and better knowledge of radiation safety. Online courses and workshops were the preferred methods of training.

Summary: Delirium in older people is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, making prompt recognition essential. However, this study found that over half of older patients presenting to the emergency department with symptoms of delirium were ordered a CT-head scan, despite infrequent acute findings. Therefore, physicians should be more selective when ordering CT-heads in patients with symptoms of delirium.
