Summary: The copper(II) complex with two enantiomerically pure trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine units has been proven to be an efficient catalyst for the enantioselective Henry reaction of aromatic aldehydes with nitromethane. The study on various reaction conditions indicates that only one cyclohexane-1,2-diamine unit is involved in the catalysis of the Henry reaction.

Summary: Efficient one-pot CuCl2-catalyzed C-S bond coupling reactions were developed for the synthesis of dibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepines and 11-methy-ldibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepines via 2-iodobenzaldehydes/2-iodoacetophenones with 2-aminobenzenethiols/2,2'-disulfanediyldianilines by using DMEDA as a bifunctional-reagent that worked as a ligand and reductant. The reactions were compatible with a range of substrates and gave moderate to excellent yields.

Summary: Diastereoselective synthesis of spirolcarbocycles based on trans-decalin and alpha-hydroxyl butanone has been achieved through Norrish-Yang photocyclization using daylight. Density functional theory calculations indicate that substrate conformation and intramolecular hydrogen bonds play important roles in this selective reaction. The developed chemistry has potential applications in synthesizing derivatives of biologically important natural products containing trans-decalin.

Summary: The use of a new tetradentate Schiff base (LH2) in 4f-metal chemistry is described. The reaction between Ln(NO3)(3)center dot xH(2)O and LH2 in MeOH/CH2Cl2 leads to the formation of isostructural complexes [Ln(NO3)(3)(L ' H-2)(MeOH)] with good yields. The unexpected ring-opening of the cyclohexane ring in the Schiff base ligand L ' H-2 has been observed.

Summary: As an important neurotransmitter, dopamine plays a vital role in the central nervous system, and its levels vary in various neurological and psychiatric disorders. Our group has developed a highly sensitive colorimetric sensor based on organic chromophore for detecting dopamine. The sensor has a wide detection range from 5 to 475 pM and a LOD of 0.02 pM, making it useful for clinical applications where dopamine concentration can vary from pM to nM levels in human serum collected from different parts of the body. The real-time analysis of the sensor in human serum samples shows promise in diagnosing dopamine-related brain issues.

Summary: A series of Schiff base ligands were prepared by condensation and reduction reactions, which showed antimicrobial activities. The structures of the Schiff base ligands and zinc complexes were analyzed, and the antimicrobial effect of the complexes was found to be significantly higher than that of the free ligands. This suggests a synergic effect upon complexation with zinc.

Summary: Conventional LC-based sensors for detecting metal ions require additional premixing procedures and are not suitable for in-situ monitoring. In this work, an amphiphilic molecule, NN12C, was used as a molecular probe in LC-based sensors for detecting Al3+. The binding of Al3+ and NN12C disrupted the LC orientation and resulted in a dark-to-bright transition of LC images. The lowest detectable concentration of Al3+ was 8 mu M, and the sensor was successfully applied to detect aluminum ions in drinking water.

Summary: The lipophilic diastereomeric cobalt complexes catalyze enantioselective C-H bond addition reactions with aliphatic tertiary amines. Incorporating different bases into counter anions can lead to highly enantioselective bifunctional catalysts, where salts of nicotinates and related compounds have been found effective. The 6-aminonicotinate salt gives the best results among the tested bases.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the host compound 1,4-DAX has the ability to purify 2MP/PYR and 3MP/PYR binary mixtures almost exclusively containing PYR. Results show that even with approximately 30% PYR in the mixtures, 1,4-DAX can include up to 92.4% and 96.4% of PYR in the complexes. Additionally, 1,4-DAX is capable of forming mixed complexes with as high as 87.8% PYR from equimolar ternary mixtures containing 2MP, 3MP and PYR.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of sulfated disaccharide inhibitors based on IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S), which showed potent inhibition of Sulf-2. The results suggest that IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S) is the shortest fragment size required for effective inhibition of Sulfs, and a trisulfated disaccharide is identified as the minimal fragment size of heparan sulfate for effective endosulfatase inhibition.

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of functionalized benzo[a]phenazines and indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines was achieved through Rh(III)-catalyzed oxidative annulation of 2-arylquinoxalines and 2-aryl-2H-indazoles with allyl alcohols. The method showed a wide substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, good to high yields of annulated products, and the capability for scaled-up synthesis. A tentative mechanism of the annulation reaction was proposed based on a preliminary mechanistic investigation.
