Summary: Nuclear energy continues to be a topic of controversy in society. It is seen as a potential solution for climate-friendly and resource conserving power generation, but the issue of nuclear waste storage remains unresolved. A good waste management policy and phasing out commercial nuclear energy are essential for Germany's energy and socio-ecological transformation.

Summary: This article discusses the formation of Pangaea due to Palaeozoic plate tectonics, followed by the complex mountain belt formed by the collision and accretion of continental plates. While regional geological models agree on the tectonic causes of orogenies, they are incompatible on a larger scale, resulting in various plate tectonic scenarios. The article also presents a plate tectonic reconstruction method based on the collision between Gondwana and Laurussia for Western Pangaea.

Summary: Scientific analysis of artistic and cultural heritage objects, especially the chemical composition, provides valuable information that cannot be obtained solely through art historical investigations. Advances in X-ray analytical methods, such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis and Particle-Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) analysis, enable non-destructive investigation of fragile and precious objects. Sophisticated set-ups using particle accelerators or portable instrumentation are employed for sensitive and in-situ measurements. Highlights include limoges school enamels, manuscripts of Goethe and Schiller, the sceptre of Charlemagne, medieval metal objects, silverpoint drawings from the Renaissance, and Indian Mughal paintings.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of natural organic additive cellulose on the preparation, morphology, and thermal properties of polypropylene fibers. A series of modified polypropylene fibers with different cellulose content (ranging from 0 wt.% to 3 wt.%) were prepared using the traditional process of melt spinning and drawing. The non-isothermal crystallization and melting behavior of the fibers were analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry tests, and the surface morphology and cross-sectional shapes were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results were compared with reference polypropylene fibers prepared under the same technological conditions.

Regional & Urban Planning
Simon Grimm
Summary: This essay focuses on the growing centres of the Zurich agglomeration, particularly in the communities of Schlieren, Thalwil, and Wallisellen. The study explores the area around train stations in these centres. The construction of train stations outside the historic town centres has led to the development of new central areas. However, despite real estate developments, the urban pathways crossing the railway infrastructures are often poorly developed. The essay concludes with potential planning approaches to address these urban development and socio-spatial deficit issues.

Summary: The particulates from recycled construction material tend to generate dust due to wide particle size distribution, which is often an unintended side effect released in gaseous environment, resulting in a loss of resources and negative impacts on people and the environment. In this study, various mineral materials with different size distribution but identical moisture content were investigated for their tendency to generate dust.
