In this study, Terminalia chebula nanoparticles (T. chebula-NPs) were prepared and characterized. These nanoparticles exhibited excellent antioxidant properties and proved to be effective in treating status epilepticus. The histopathology of brain specimens confirmed the superior efficacy of the prepared nanoparticles in treating status epilepticus.
Terminalia chebula (T. chebula), a member of the Combretaceae family, a significant reputation in traditional global medicine due to its antioxidant properties and efficacy in treating status epilepticus. Nanoparticles (NPs) were formulated using the methanolic extract of T. chebula residue through the solvent evaporation method. Characterization studies, including FTIR, DSC, XRD, SEM, in vitro release studies, and evaluation of scavenging activity against free radicals, were conducted. Subsequently, anti-convulsant activity was assessed through MES and rotarod studies. In summary, the investigation of fruit extracts revealed that T. chebula nanoparticles (T. chebula-NPs) exhibited superior actions when compared to the extract residue. The NPs, prepared with a 70% methanol extract of T. chebula, acted as natural antioxidants and proved to be the best source for antiepileptic treatment of status epilepticus. In this study, T. chebula-NPs were prepared and characterized using SEM (revealing a smooth and spherical texture) and DLS (with a particle size of 188.24 +/- 7.21 nm and a zeta potential of - 19.7 +/- 0.81 mV). MES studies demonstrated a 67.33% inhibition rate, while rotarod studies showed a 67.33 +/- 6.67% improvement within 60 s. Furthermore, histopathology of brain specimens confirmed that the prepared nanoparticles exhibited greater efficacy in treating status epilepticus.
