Summary: Gastric cancer is a common type of cancer with surgery as the main treatment method. However, it is expensive and painful, and patients often experience recurrence. Ferroptosis, a form of cell death dependent on iron, provides a new perspective in cancer therapy. This review summarizes the latest findings on ferroptosis regulation in gastric cancer, discusses the potential of drugs and genes in inducing ferroptosis for treatment and drug resistance, explores the relationship between ferroptosis and the tumor microenvironment in gastric cancer, and suggests areas for future research to accelerate the clinical utility of ferroptosis induction as a treatment strategy for gastric cancer.

Summary: This study demonstrates that MeCP2 confers 5-FU resistance in gastric cancer cells by upregulating the NOX4/PKM2 pathway. Knockdown of MeCP2 enhances the sensitivity of cells to 5-FU, and silencing NOX4 can rescue the inductive effect of MeCP2 overexpression on 5-FU sensitivity. In vivo experiments also show that MeCP2 knockdown enhances 5-FU sensitivity in tumors.

Summary: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a subtype of stroke with high mortality and disability rates, where ferroptosis plays a dominant role in its pathogenesis. Baicalin, a main active ingredient of Chinese herbal medicine, exhibits neuroprotective effects against ICH-induced brain injury by inhibiting ferroptosis and shows potential as a therapeutic drug for ICH treatment.

Summary: Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of cell death that is closely related to cancer progression, treatment response, and metastasis. Cancer cells can decrease their susceptibility to ferroptosis to resist anticancer therapy. Inducing ferroptosis can restore the sensitivity of drug-resistant cancer cells to standard treatments. Understanding the regulatory mechanisms and signaling pathways of ferroptosis can provide new insights to enhance the efficacy of anticancer drugs, overcome drug resistance, and inhibit cancer metastasis.

Summary: This study explored the value of heart rate, body temperature, and respiratory rate in early prediction of anastomotic leakage after rectal cancer surgery. Vital signs showed significant differences within 7 days postsurgery between patients with and without anastomotic leakage, with heart rate, body temperature, and respiratory rate being higher in the leakage group. The changes in these vital signs have potential predictive value for early diagnosis of anastomotic leakage.

Summary: The high expression of SATB1 in gastric cancer is associated with reduced sensitivity to various chemotherapy drugs. SATB1 promotes chemotherapy resistance by enhancing the activity of multiple ABC transporters in gastric cancer cell lines. SATB1 affects the subcellular localization of ABC transporters by binding to Ezrin and it also regulates Ezrin expression through binding to its promoter. This study elucidates the mechanism of SATB1-mediated multidrug resistance in gastric cancer and suggests SATB1 as a potential target for overcoming drug resistance.

Summary: Ischemic stroke is a common and serious disease, and neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in its progression. Microglia, astrocytes, and infiltrating immune cells are involved in the complicated neuroinflammation cascade, releasing different molecules that affect inflammation. Flavonoids, plant-specific compounds, have shown protective effects against cerebral ischemia injury by modulating the inflammatory responses.
