Summary: Nodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma (NMZL) is a rare form of lymphoma that can be difficult to differentiate from Lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma/Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (LPL/WM). This case report highlights the first case of NMZL with elevated monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM) complicated by atypical nontraumatic chylothorax. It emphasizes the importance of considering hematologic malignancies in patients with atypical nontraumatic chylothorax.

Summary: This study demonstrates the important role of IGF1R in preventing autoimmunity both in experimental models and in patient material, and raises awareness of potential immune tolerance breakdown during therapeutic IGF1R targeting.

Summary: Observations of surface waves and ice drift along a compact sea ice edge highlight the significance of waves in a marginal ice zone. An analytic model and momentum balance are used to explain the ice drift forced by radiation stress gradient of oblique waves. While lateral shear stresses in the ice are evaluated, additional forcing by local winds is considered small compared to wave forcing, which is isolated to a narrow region around 500m wide.

Summary: Session 3 of the lymphoma workshop at the joint meeting of the European Association for Haematopathology and the Society for Hematopathology discussed splenic and nodal marginal zone lymphomas, transformation in marginal zone lymphomas, and pediatric nodal marginal zone lymphomas. The case review emphasized the challenges in diagnosing marginal zone lymphomas, including distinguishing between different types and the need for molecular studies to establish a final diagnosis. The workshop also addressed the overlapping spectrum between pediatric nodal marginal zone lymphoma and pediatric-type follicular lymphoma.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the impact of malnutrition on the spleen, revealing significant reductions in spleen weight and red pulp ratio in dietary-restricted mice. It was found that macrophages in the marginal zone of the spleen play a crucial role in the dietary restriction-induced splenic involution.

Summary: FoB and MZB cells are functionally distinct mature B cell populations in the spleen, which can be re-programmed through Notch2 activation. The study demonstrates plasticity between these cell types and suggests a potential pathway for MZB cell development in vivo, driven by a singular signaling event.

Summary: Colon extranodal marginal zone lymphoma (EMZL) is a poorly characterized disease in the literature. A retrospective study found that patients with colon EMZL mostly present with stage-I disease and have good prognosis with non-aggressive therapeutic approaches. The SEER database analysis also showed a high overall survival rate for stage-I colon EMZL patients with no significant difference between treatment groups.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of ocean waves on ice cover, particularly the phenomenon of wave overwash in the marginal ice zone. Through model validation and experimental research, it is found that the extent of overwash is influenced by wave and ice conditions, providing a basis for improving understanding of the effects on ice cover.

Summary: Inhibitors of PI3K and BTK have limited success in inducing complete responses in indolent B cell lymphomas, suggesting the need for combination therapies. The IRAK4 inhibitor emavusertib shows effectiveness as a single agent and in combination with targeted agents, including overcoming resistance to BTK and PI3K inhibitors. Emavusertib exerts its activity through inhibition of NF-kappa B signaling and induction of apoptosis.

Summary: Autoimmune diseases are difficult to treat, but improving apoptotic cell processing could be a potential strategy. Liposomes composed of phosphatidylserine (PS) have shown anti-inflammatory effects and could be used as antigen delivery vesicles to target autoimmune diseases.
