Summary: The term "coronary steal" was coined in 1967, similar to the previously used term "subclavian steal" in 1961. "Steal" in both cases describes flow reversal in an abnormal vascular network, one involving subclavian stenosis and the other involving a coronary fistula. Over time, the term has expanded to include various pathophysiology that leads to a decrease in stress flow rather than explicit flow reversal. This review provides insights into the clinical and pathophysiological aspects of coronary steal, discussing the anatomical and physiological conditions that allow its occurrence and presenting treatment options for different scenarios.

Summary: Therapeutic closure of LIMA side branches has been shown to be effective in reducing angina symptoms and improving reversible ischemia in patients with unligated side branches following coronary artery bypass grafting. Ongoing consideration for LIMA side branch coronary steal is recommended for symptomatic patients with evidence of reversible ischemia on perfusion imaging.

Summary: This case report describes a rare congenital vascular variant disease, the right aortic arch (RAA), and its association with subclavian steal syndrome. The patient presented with vertigo and ischemic symptoms of the left upper extremity. Diagnosis was made using aortic computed tomography angiography and digital subtraction angiography, and the patient underwent carotid-subclavian bypass surgery.

Summary: This study describes the range of concurrent cardiac malformations in infants with biliary atresia and emphasizes the need for cardiac intervention in high-risk cases. While some infants with cardiac anomalies were able to clear jaundice following KPE, they had higher mortality rates compared to those without cardiac issues.

Summary: This paper reported a rare case of ischemic steal syndrome caused by radial arteriovenous fistula after transradial cardiac catheterization. The fistula was successfully treated with surgery and the symptoms gradually improved. The optimal therapy for iatrogenic radial AVF is controversial based on previous reports.

Summary: This study compared the impact of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). The results showed that compared to PCI, exercise-based CR was associated with significantly lower odds of 18-month all-cause mortality, rehospitalization, and cardiovascular morbidity in CCS patients. Combining PCI with exercise-based CR was only associated with lower incident heart failure.

Summary: This case report highlights the rare occurrence of subclavian steal syndrome caused by Sjogren's syndrome in an elderly patient and emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and treatment, especially in cases with hypertension. It also underscores the significance of considering uncommon etiologies for common symptoms like dizziness and limb weakness.

Summary: Cardiac myxomas (CM) are relatively rare tumors in the heart, mostly benign. They can cause sudden death and are commonly found in the left atrium, leading to mitral valve obstruction or congestive heart failure. The outcome after surgical excision of CM is compromised if there is preoperative cerebral embolization.

Summary: This study compared the safety and efficacy of vascular plug (VP) and vascular plug and polidocanol foam (VPPF) treatments for embolization in pelvic congestion syndrome. The results showed no significant difference in the improvement of symptoms between the two treatments at the 1-year follow-up. The VP treatment was associated with a higher number of devices used but shorter fluoroscopy time and lower radiation dose.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the effects of levosimendan in 314 patients with severe heart failure who underwent cardiac surgery. The results showed that levosimendan significantly improved postoperative survival rates, hemodynamic stability, and reduced the need for inotropic support. It also helped minimize myocardial injury and reduce hospital readmissions.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate microcirculatory resistance (MR) and myocardial metabolic adaptations in patients with suspected coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) at rest and in response to increased cardiac workload. Microcirculatory assessment and transcardiac blood sampling were conducted during graded exercise with adenosine-mediated hyperaemia in patients with objective ischaemia and/or myocardial injury and non-obstructive coronary artery disease. The results showed that patients with suspected CMD exhibited distinct microcirculatory resistive and myocardial metabolic profiles at rest and in response to exercise.
