NICER observations of the evidence of Poynting-Robertson drag and disk reflection during type I X-ray bursts from 4U 1636-536

Guoying Zhao, Zhaosheng Li, Yuanyue Pan, Maurizio Falanga, Long Ji, Yupeng Chen, Shu Zhang

Summary: Type I X-ray bursts are the result of unstable thermonuclear burning on the surface of a neutron star, resulting in the release of energetic X-ray photons. These bursts interact with the surrounding accretion disk, increasing the accretion rate. By analyzing two photospheric radius expansion bursts in 4U 1636-536, it was found that the spectral fitting can be improved by considering enhanced persistent emission or reflection from the accretion disk. Evidence suggests that both Poynting-Robertson drag and disk reflection occurred during these bursts, and the disk reflection may contribute up to 20-30% of the total burst emissions.

Summary: This study reports the detection of a strong quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) of about 40 Hz in an X-ray burst from the magnetar SGR J1935+2154, which is associated with FRB 200428. The discovery suggests that some FRBs may be related to strong oscillation processes of neutron stars, providing important clues for understanding the origin and mechanism of FRBs.

Insight-HXMT Observation of 4U 1608-52: Evidence of Interplay between a Thermonuclear Burst and Accretion Environment

Yu-Peng Chen, Shu Zhang, Long Ji, Shuang-Nan Zhang, Ling-Da Kong, Peng-Ju Wang, Zhi Chang, Jing-Qiang Peng, Jin-Lu Qu, Jian Li

Summary: This study investigates the interplay between a bright photospheric radius expansion (PRE) burst and persistent emission in 4U 1608-52. The findings indicate that the burst emission can be either enhanced preburst/persistent emission or the Comptonization of the burst emission by the corona/boundary layer. The temporal evolution of the NS surface emission shows a plateau and then a rise until the photosphere touches down on the NS surface, resulting in a flux peak.

Summary: In this study, we report the spectral-timing results of the black hole X-ray binary 4U 1630-47 during its 2021 outburst using observations from the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope. We detected Type C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) and quasi-regular modulation (QRM) near 60 mHz, and found that the properties of the QRM phenomenon are energy-dependent and also related to the accretion rate.

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.
