Summary: This study reports an iron catalyst for cross-coupling reactions of alkyl electrophiles using olefins and hydrosilanes instead of alkylmetal reagents. Carbon-carbon bond formation occurs at room temperature, and the method utilizes commercially available components. Mechanistic studies suggest the generation of an alkyl radical from the alkyl electrophile and reversible elementary steps.

Summary: This study reports a new method to activate alpha-3 degrees amines for deaminative arylation by condensing with an electron-rich aldehyde and combining this reactivity with nickel metallaphotoredox to generate benzylic quaternary centers. The reaction is accelerated by added ammonium salts, which inhibit nickel black formation and accelerate the overall reaction rate. The study demonstrates a broad scope of coupling partners and shows an expedited synthesis of ALK2 inhibitors.

Summary: A convenient protocol for assembling internal alkynes from tertiary propargyl alcohols and (het)aryl halides has been developed, using Pd- and phosphine-free catalysts. The method involves the base-promoted retro-Favorskii fragmentation and Cu-catalyzed C(sp)-C(sp(2)) cross-coupling. The procedure is practical and cost-effective, as it uses inexpensive reagents and exhibits good functional group tolerance.

Summary: A novel surfactant-assisted ultrasound coupling persulfate method was proposed for the enhanced defluorination of perfluorooctanoic acids (PFOA). Instead of adding the surfactant directly into the PFOA solution, the surfactant was added to the ultrasound bath outside of the PFOA reactor. The effects of critical micelle concentration, surfactant concentration and type, ultrasound frequency, and pH of the ultrasound bath liquid on PFOA defluorination were investigated, and it was found that low-frequency ultrasound levels facilitated the defluorination of PFOA.

Summary: The catalytic hydrogenation activity of a coordinatively saturated cobalt(I) precatalyst is described, showing improved performance under blue light irradiation. Under thermal conditions, a hydrogen atom transfer pathway is enabled by a weak cobalt-hydrogen bond, while under photocatalytic conditions, a coordination-insertion sequence is supported after light-induced dissociation of a carbonyl ligand. This study demonstrates the versatility of catalysis with Earth-abundant metals by switching between open- and closed-shell intermediates based on the energy source.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of sulfated disaccharide inhibitors based on IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S), which showed potent inhibition of Sulf-2. The results suggest that IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S) is the shortest fragment size required for effective inhibition of Sulfs, and a trisulfated disaccharide is identified as the minimal fragment size of heparan sulfate for effective endosulfatase inhibition.

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of functionalized benzo[a]phenazines and indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines was achieved through Rh(III)-catalyzed oxidative annulation of 2-arylquinoxalines and 2-aryl-2H-indazoles with allyl alcohols. The method showed a wide substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, good to high yields of annulated products, and the capability for scaled-up synthesis. A tentative mechanism of the annulation reaction was proposed based on a preliminary mechanistic investigation.
