Summary: Emulsion, as a fine dispersion of immiscible liquids, has widespread applications in various fields such as sustainable industry, biomedical reactions, and drug delivery. Stimuli-responsive emulsions that can demulsify on demand or change their properties are in high demand due to their noninvasive and environmentally friendly characteristics. Considerable progress has been made in developing physical stimuli-responsive emulsions, with valuable practical applications including controllable release cargo, oil recovery, and product separation.

Summary: In this study, an efficient and recyclable platform for interfacial catalytic reaction was constructed using pH-responsive n-decane-in-water Pickering emulsions. The prepared emulsions showed high stability and rapid demulsification at low pH. The catalytic platform exhibited a far higher reaction efficiency compared to ordinary n-decane-water systems. This study demonstrates the potential application of Pickering emulsions in heterogeneous reactions.

Summary: A facile method based on recyclable nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI)-mediated photoRDRP in ionic liquid led to the synthesis of narrow disperse poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) and poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)-block-poly(4-vinylphenylboronic acid) (PDMAEMA-b-PVPBA) diblock copolymers. The stimuli response of the PDMAEMA-b-PVPBA copolymer to changes in pH, temperature, and sugar concentration was evaluated. The recyclability of the nZVI catalyst and ionic liquid solvent was confirmed. The polymerization process can be controlled by simply turning the UV-A irradiation on or off, providing temporal control for spatiotemporal ON/OFF applications. DFT calculations were conducted to determine the geometry of the involved species.

Summary: With reversible deactivated radical polymerization techniques, polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) has become a convenient method for preparing block copolymer nanoparticles in situ with high concentrations. These nanoparticles have wide potential applications in nanomedicine, coatings, nanomanufacture, and Pickering emulsions. By introducing stimulus responsiveness into PISA nanoparticles, Pickering emulsions stabilized with these nanoparticles can exhibit smart behaviors, allowing reversible emulsification and demulsification. This review focuses on recent progress in Pickering emulsions stabilized by stimuli-responsive PISA nanoparticles, discussing factors affecting the stability during emulsification and demulsification, as well as exploring applications in antibacterial agents, diphase reaction platforms, and multi-emulsions. The future developments and applications of stimuli-responsive Pickering emulsions stabilized by PISA nanoparticles are also highlighted.

Summary: The transition from self-coacervation to complex coacervation of a series of charge-balanced polyampholyte (PA) and polyelectrolyte (PE) pairs based on copolymers of methacrylic acid and N-(3-aminopropyl) methacrylamide hydrochloride was described, focusing on the effects of charge distribution on coacervate properties. The study found that higher molecular weight complex coacervates exhibited increased resistance to stimuli such as ionic strength and pH, compared to liquid self-coacervates and less hydrated coacervates formed from two PE homopolymers with complementary nonstoichiometric PAs.

Summary: In this study, oil-in-water emulsions made of medium-chain triglycerides, mucilage from Dioscorea opposita, and food-grade polysaccharides were prepared and their stability was compared. The results showed that low concentrations of pectin and mucilage from Dioscorea opposita improved the stability of emulsions, suggesting that mucilage from Dioscorea opposita has potential as a natural emulsifier.

Summary: Water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions stabilized by biocompatible and biodegradable gliadin/ethyl cellulose complex particles (GECPs) were developed and characterized. The stability of the emulsions could be adjusted by varying the gliadin-to-ethyl cellulose ratio of the GECPs. Confocal laser scanning microscopy and theoretical calculations confirmed the formation of multiple interfacial layers by the GECPs, providing physical barriers against coalescence and contributing to the long-term stability of the emulsions.

Summary: Poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) diblock copolymers (PEG-b-PCL) with predesigned hydrophilic/hydrophobic block length ratios were synthesized and self-assembled into micelles for emulsifying medium-chain triglycerides with an aqueous phase. The relationship between the wettability of the copolymer micelles and their emulsification properties was proved, and various Pickering emulsions, including double-W/O/W emulsions, were controllably prepared through one-step homogenization. The double microstructure of W/O/W Pickering emulsion was demonstrated to be highly stable during long-term storage.

Summary: We report the synthesis of redox- and pH-sensitive block copolymer micelles that contain chiral cores composed of helical poly(aryl isocyanide)s. The introduction of cross-links and stimulus-sensitive nanostructures are achieved through post-polymerisation modification with various diamines. The stimuli-responsiveness of the nanoparticles towards a reducing agent and pH is evaluated by following the change in size using dynamic light scattering.

Summary: Crystallization from solution often involves transient, non-crystalline states such as reactant-rich liquid droplets and amorphous particles. In this study, the crystallization process of cerium oxalate was investigated and a metastable chemical equilibrium between liquid droplets and solid amorphous particles was observed. Contrary to expectations, reactant-rich droplets do not transform into amorphous solids, but instead, amorphous and reactant-rich liquid phases coexist for a certain period of time.

Summary: By coupling bare plasmonic gold nanoparticles (GNPs) with hybrid aluminosilicate nanotubes (Imo-CH3), the photocatalytic activity of the nanotubes is significantly enhanced, with a large part of water reduction occurring directly on the gold surface. The coupling mechanism strongly influences the initial H-2 production rate, which can be greatly increased compared to bare Imo-CH3. This hybrid photocatalytic nano-reactor benefits from a synergy of polarization and confinement effects, facilitating efficient H-2 production.

Summary: Peptides, such as cyclosporin A (CsA) and Elamipretide, have shown potential in preventing ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. However, their rapid degradation in the bloodstream limits their effectiveness. To address this issue, a new bioconjugate of Elamipretide was developed by coupling it with polyisoprenoid lipids, which demonstrated self-assembling ability. The resulting nanoparticles, combined with CsA, showed low cytotoxicity and antioxidant capacity, making them a promising approach for targeting cardiac I/R lesions.
