A composite material was developed by recovering a graphite felt (RVG 4000) with ruthenium and tin oxides ((RuO2)(0.9)-(SnO2)(0.1)/C) by the Pechini method for the electrochemical generation of H2O2 in situ. The electrochemical and physical characterization demonstrated the complete recovering of the graphite felt with the metallic oxides resulting in an unprecedented and enormous increase in the electrochemical active area. The results showed a higher electrochemical activity for the electro-generation of H2O2 in the (RuO2)(0.9)-(SnO2)(0.1)/C electrode compared with the pure felt (i.e. similar to 72% higher). Thus, the carbon felt covered with the mixture (RuO2)(0.9)-(SnO2)(0.1) can be used in the treatment of contaminated waters by organic compounds using an Electro-Fenton process.
