Situating the local in a global expedition: HMS Challenger expedition in New Zealand, 1874

This short communication focuses on the Challenger expedition's time in New Zealand as an example of the ways in which colonial participants contributed to this nineteenth-century scientific circumnavigation and its scientific research using their location and local knowledge.
