Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are part of the brain's response to ischemia. This study aimed to screen potential miRNAs for the prediction and novel treatments of ischemic stroke. Methods: Two mRNA and 1 miRNA microarray expression profile data were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Then, differentially expressed mRNAs and miRNAs were identified. Based on the miRNA-target pairs predicted, an miRNA-target interaction network was established. Bioinformatics analysis (Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment) was applied to interpret the function of the miRNA targets. Results: In total, 16 differentially expressed miRNAs and 1345 differentially expressed genes were identified in ischemic stroke, respectively. Importantly, 445 miRNA-target pairs with an inverse correlation of expression were obtained, and the miRNA functional synergistic network was generated. Two miRNAs (miR145 and miR-122) may represent potential biomarkers in ischemic stroke by being involved in the process of postischemic neuronal damage and thrombosis, respectively. Three novel miRNAs (miR-99b, miR-542-3p, and miR-455-5p) were deregulated, suggesting their roles in the pathological processes of ischemic stroke. Functional annotation indicated that apoptotic signaling cascades play an important role in patients with ischemic stroke. Conclusion: miR-145 and miR-122 represent new biomarkers and underlying targets for the prevention and treatment of ischemic stroke. (C) 2016 National Stroke Association. Published by Elsevier Inc. Dong Cao, Fahui Ye, Caixia Zhao, Jicheng Shen, Ruijuan Liu, Bo Zhang, Yuhu Shen, Huaigang Zhang, Baolong Liu, Wenjie Chen

Summary: Avenin-like storage proteins have a significant impact on the rheological properties and processing quality of common wheat. The study on variability in avenin-like b genes in T. urartu revealed high levels of polymorphism, resulting in the discovery of 18 novel TuALPb7A alleles. These alleles can improve the functional properties of dough and provide breeding materials for wheat quality improvement.

Summary: This paper presents a design method for a large-range torque sensor with variable resolutions based on the principle of variable stiffness. The sensor, constructed by multiple radial flexures with different stiffness in series, can provide variable resolutions in different ranges. Additionally, a passive eddy current damper is designed to suppress mechanical vibration, and experimental results show excellent vibration suppression performance of the sensor.

Summary: The synergistic effects of plant-microbial treatment significantly enhance the removal of pollutants in shale gas fracturing waste fluid. The combination of 201.24g water dropwort and 435mg/L activated sludge under illumination of 450-495 nm (blue) at 25 degrees Celsius showed the best treatment condition. The microbial community composition varied significantly with illumination wavelength and temperature under plant-microbial synergism.

Summary: Younger age, PR negative status, tumor grade, and advanced lymph nodes postsurgery are independent prognostic factors of disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in young patients with resected breast cancer. In hormone receptor-positive patients, those with ER+ or PR+ and HER2-/+ status showed poorer prognosis. Risk factor grouping based on certain factors can identify patients with poorer prognosis in young breast cancer cases.

Current Sharing Based on Incremental Passivity and Unknown Load Finite-Time Estimation for Multilevel Connected DC-DC Converters

Jia Liu, Zhitao Liu, Wenjie Chen, Hongye Su, Liyan Zhang

Summary: This article investigates current sharing based on incremental passivity control for multilevel connected dc-dc converters. By combining passivity-based control with a finite-time estimator, a linear control law is proposed despite the bilinear nature of the system. Analysis shows that stability and current sharing are independent of inductor parameters. Simulation and experiments validate the proposed control scheme's fast transit response and antidisturbance performance.

Summary: In this paper, a new magnetic coupler array is proposed to implement dynamic wireless charging and reduce power pulsation. By adjusting the transmitter spacing and designing a larger receiver coil, power pulsation and null power phenomenon are successfully mitigated. Furthermore, a multilevel connected DC-DC converter is designed to regulate transfer power, and a passivity-based control method and current sharing compensator are developed.

Summary: The assembly process of extrinsic neurons in the Drosophila mushroom body (MB) is not well understood. In this study, the authors followed the development of DANs and MBONs in the adult MB and found that these neurons innervate the lobes sequentially and their neurite arborizations in the lobes are independent of each other. The dendrites of MBONs show a hierarchical organization of guidance signals.

Summary: Roll-to-roll printed electronics is a low-cost and high-efficiency manufacturing method that requires stable web tension control. Traditional control methods struggle to guarantee control accuracy due to uncertainties, hence a nonlinear model predictive control scheme is proposed to eliminate disturbances. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is validated through MATLAB simulations and performance tests.

Dynamics of evaporating thin liquid films in microchannel

Yanhong Sun, Wenjie Chen, Jinli Lu, Changlong Wang

Summary: In this study, experimental investigation on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a thin liquid film in micro circular tubes with an inner diameter of 0.5 mm was conducted. The results showed that the temperature and pressure fluctuation was consistent with the generation of bubble clusters, providing insights into the mechanism of flow boiling instability. The characteristics of void fraction, such as the duration of bubbles and liquid slugs, were obtained from the dynamic distribution diagram of the liquid film thickness, and the experimental data showed a good agreement with the homogeneous model. The temporary variation of the thin liquid film offered an opportunity to probe the physics of bubble dynamics and instability during flow boiling.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endovascular treatment (EVT) in primary and EVT-induced secondary medium-vessel occlusions (MeVO). The results showed that primary MeVO had poorer outcomes in terms of complications, EVT efficacy, and the proportion of patients with a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) of 0-2 at 3 months compared to exclusive large-vessel occlusion (LVO). However, EVT-induced secondary MeVO showed similar safety and efficacy outcomes as exclusive LVO and had better outcomes in terms of mRS 0-2 compared to primary MeVO.
