Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate if baseline motor competence, weight status and sports participation in early childhood predict sports participation two years later. Design: longitudinal study. Methods: In 2010, motor competence (object control and locomotor skills), weight status and sports participation were assessed in 292 children between three and five years-of-age. In 2012, sports participation was re-evaluated in 206 of the original 292 children. Logistic regression was implemented to examine if initial sports participation, motor competence and weight status would predict sports participation two years later. Results: In the final model, sports participation in 2010 (OR = 9.68, CI: 3.46 to 27.13) and locomotor skills (OR = 1.21, CI: 1.01 to 1.46) significantly predicted sports participation after two years. Conclusions: These results suggest that initial sports participation and more advanced locomotor skills in preschool years may be important to promote continued participation in sports across childhood. Inter-individual variability in children's physical growth and body composition: Findings of longitudinal ELOS-Pre study

Teserinha de Jesus Sousa Lima, Thaliane Mayara Pessoa dos Prazeres, Rafael dos Santos Henrique, Daniel da Rocha Queiroz, Jorge Bezerra, Mauro Virgilio Gomes de Barros, Marcos Andre Moura dos Santos

Summary: This study longitudinally analyzed the dynamics of physical growth and body composition of children from 5 to 9 years, finding significant differences in height, body mass, and fat-free-mass between girls and boys, as well as between low-birth-weight and normal-birth-weight children. The type of delivery also influenced growth dynamics, with children born by cesarean section showing lower height, body mass, and fat percentage compared to those born vaginally.

A holistic analysis of collective behaviour and team performance in Australian Football via structural equation modelling

William B. Sheehan, Rhys Tribolet, Andrew R. Novak, Job Fransen, Mark L. Watsford

Summary: This study examined the relationship between the technical, tactical, and physical characteristics of Australian Football and the outcome of the game. The results showed that scoring opportunity and ball movement had a direct association with the game outcome, while unpredictability, uncontested behavior, and physical behavior did not. This study provides insights for coaches and practitioners in terms of training design, tactical strategies, and behavior development.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the test-retest reliability and discriminant validity of the Mobalytics Proving Ground(TM) assessment for League of Legends. The results showed that this assessment tool can, to some extent, distinguish esports players from controls and has moderate test-retest reliability.

Summary: This systematic review examined the effects of augmented feedback on the performance and learning of gross motor and sport-specific skills in adults. The majority of studies showed positive effects of augmented feedback on learning, but most of the studies had a high risk of bias and lacked consistency in methodology and results. Further research is needed to provide stronger evidence.

Summary: This study followed professional and semiprofessional esports players over a year to monitor their practice behaviors. The results showed that professional players had significantly longer total practice time and competitive practice time compared to semiprofessional players. These findings suggest that high-level esports players require extensive practice.

Dynamical biomarkers in teams and other multiagent systems

Gaurav Patil, Patrick Nalepka, Andrew Novak, Fabrizia Auletta, Gert-Jan Pepping, Job Fransen, Rachel W. Kallen, Michael J. Richardson

Summary: Effective team behavior in high-performance environments requires team members to perceive task events, predict actions of others, and simultaneously achieve individual and collective goals. Measuring situation awareness and dynamics of team members is crucial for enhancing team performance, and these measures should be easily obtained from existing sensors.

Cooperative networks in team invasion games: A systematic mapping review

Sam Palmer, Andrew R. Novak, Rhys Tribolet, Mark L. Watsford, Job Fransen

Summary: Team invasion games are sports where team members interact and exchange information to coordinate behaviors and actions in order to win matches. Social network analysis has been used to quantify team cooperation in these games, but there is a lack of consistency in reporting and methods across disciplines. This systematic mapping review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of research using cooperative network analysis in team invasion games, which can be useful for practitioners and researchers analyzing team performance.

Summary: Down syndrome (DS), a genetic condition, often leads to impairments in body systems and a higher risk of sedentary habits and comorbidities. Limited access to services, financial constraints, and lack of interest further hinder physical activities. A study on the use of telerehabilitation and a virtual task called MoveHero showed that virtual reality can effectively promote physical activities and improve motor performance for individuals with DS, as indicated by increased heart rate and perceived effort ratings.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the association between volume and intensity of physical activity and mental health among adolescents. The results showed that any volume of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was significantly associated with a lower risk of suicidal ideation, suspicion of common mental disorders, and negative self-perception of mental health. The promotion of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity can benefit the mental health of adolescents.

An observational study of player behaviours under varying task constraints in professional Australian football players

Rhys Tribolet, William B. Sheehan, Andrew R. Novak, Mark L. Watsford, Job Fransen

Summary: This study evaluated player behaviour and performance in a professional Australian Football club across different playing conditions. The findings showed minimal changes in integrative measures, suggesting the need for larger changes in control parameters. Individual level behaviours varied across conditions, with AFL matches exhibiting the lowest kicks and marks per minute but the highest rate of tackles. The study highlights the importance of measuring the stability of individual and integrative behaviours and how changes to constraints can impact these metrics.
