Summary: This pilot follow-up study investigated the long-term effects of a lifestyle intervention during pregnancy on children's motor performance and body composition up to 9 years of age. The study found that lifestyle intervention had an impact on children's cardiorespiratory endurance capacity and coordination, and maternal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels were associated with running performance in children.

Summary: This study identified five fetal cranial growth trajectories associated with specific neurodevelopmental, behavioral, visual, and growth outcomes, predominantly focusing on the maturation of cognitive, language, and visual skills. Further research should explore the potential for preventive interventions during pregnancy to improve infant neurodevelopmental outcomes before the critical window of opportunity that precedes the divergence of growth at 20-25 weeks' gestation.

Summary: This comprehensive review of human adipose tissue fails to mention the role of the endocannabinoid system in fat metabolism. The endogenous cannabinoids and their receptors, found in both white and brown fat, have been recognized as key players in adipose tissue metabolism. Rimonabant, an inverse agonist of cannabinoid receptor type 1, has shown promising effects as a therapeutic target for obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance, although its clinical use was discontinued due to neuropsychiatric side effects.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate whether changes in body mass index (BMI) are associated with fasting glucose and insulin resistance (IR) in early childhood. The study found that children who were in the highest BMI quartile (Q4) at both ages 2 and 4 had higher fasting glucose and insulin resistance at age 4 compared to other BMI change groups.

Summary: Promoting swimming and water safety is crucial for public health. The Pictorial Scale of Perceived Water Competence (PSPWC) assesses children's perceived competence in swimming scenarios. The study selected four critical scenarios from PSPWC and found moderate positive correlations between perceived skill and actual swim competence. The PSPWC-short form appears to be a valid screening assessment tool.

The results showed that scoring opportunity and ball movement had a direct association with the game outcome, while unpredictability, uncontested behavior, and physical behavior did not. This study provides insights for coaches and practitioners in terms of training design, tactical strategies, and behavior development.

Summary: Team invasion games are sports where team members interact and exchange information to coordinate behaviors and actions in order to win matches. Social network analysis has been used to quantify team cooperation in these games, but there is a lack of consistency in reporting and methods across disciplines. This systematic mapping review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of research using cooperative network analysis in team invasion games, which can be useful for practitioners and researchers analyzing team performance.

Summary: Down syndrome (DS), a genetic condition, often leads to impairments in body systems and a higher risk of sedentary habits and comorbidities. Limited access to services, financial constraints, and lack of interest further hinder physical activities. A study on the use of telerehabilitation and a virtual task called MoveHero showed that virtual reality can effectively promote physical activities and improve motor performance for individuals with DS, as indicated by increased heart rate and perceived effort ratings.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the association between volume and intensity of physical activity and mental health among adolescents. The results showed that any volume of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity was significantly associated with a lower risk of suicidal ideation, suspicion of common mental disorders, and negative self-perception of mental health. The promotion of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity can benefit the mental health of adolescents.

Summary: This study evaluated player behaviour and performance in a professional Australian Football club across different playing conditions. The findings showed minimal changes in integrative measures, suggesting the need for larger changes in control parameters. Individual level behaviours varied across conditions, with AFL matches exhibiting the lowest kicks and marks per minute but the highest rate of tackles. The study highlights the importance of measuring the stability of individual and integrative behaviours and how changes to constraints can impact these metrics.
