Summary: Synthetic mesh is commonly used for inguinal hernia repair, and it has been found that the mesh contracts after surgery regardless of the material used. This study developed a method for indirectly measuring the postoperative mesh area and found that the mesh shrinks over time without affecting patient outcomes.

Summary: The study investigated the anatomy of the urogenital fascia (UGF) in the inguinal region, finding that the UGF envelops various structures such as kidneys, ureters, genital vessels, and urinary bladder. Understanding the anatomy of UGF in the inguinal region can assist in identifying correct targets for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair (LIHR) and reducing complications like bleeding during the procedure.

Summary: This study found that experienced laparoscopists performing rTAPP require 43 procedures to achieve 90% proficiency and significantly reduce operative time. During the learning curve, there was a decrease in operative time and occurrence of complications compared to after the learning curve.

Summary: This study compared postoperative outcomes after transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) repair between patients with symptomatic bilateral hernia (SBH) and patients with one symptomatic hernia and an asymptomatic contralateral hernia (ACH). The results showed no significant differences in morbidity and recurrence rate between the two groups, and both groups experienced significant improvement in quality of life post-surgery.

Summary: This article describes the preperitoneal spaces relevant for incisional hernia repair and minimally invasive groin hernia repair in terms of surgical anatomy. Special attention is given to the transversalis fascia and the urogenital fascia and its extensions, such as the vesicoumbilical fascia and the spermatic sheath of Stoppa procedure. The article also reviews the steps in hernia surgery where these structures play a role.

Summary: This retrospective study compares two laparoscopic procedures for irreducible inguinal hernias. The results show that the hybrid TAPP procedure is a safe and feasible means of treating irreducible inguinal hernias, although it may have a higher incidence of postoperative acute pain compared to the standard TAPP procedure.

Summary: This study compared the postoperative outcomes and quality of life between the open transinguinal preperitoneal repair (TIPP) and the laparoscopic total extraperitoneal mesh repair (TEP) in male patients undergoing unilateral inguinal hernia repair, finding no significant differences in quality of life between the two techniques.

Summary: By comparing two different preperitoneal techniques, it was found that the incidence of chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP) after one year was similar between TREPP and TIPP, with a slightly higher recurrence rate in the TREPP group. However, after considering the learning curve, there was no significant difference in outcomes between the two techniques.

Summary: This study analyzed a surgeon's learning curve for robot-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernia repair, finding that operative times and surgical site event rates decreased gradually after completing 138 procedures. Previous laparoscopic experience, robotic team efficiency, and surgical knowledge are important factors to consider for a surgeon's learning curve.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the anatomical characteristics of the inferomedial extension of the urogenital fascia (UGF) and explore its relationship with adjacent fasciae. The double layers of the UGF are vital structures for understanding the posterior fascia relationship of the rectum. The upper segment between the fascia propria of the rectum and the visceral layer is considered a safe plane for surgical procedures.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility and outcomes of recurrent inguinal hernia repair after TIPP. The results showed that re-surgery with an anterior approach, such as Lichtenstein repair or re-TIPP strategy, is safe and feasible, with low recurrence rates and minor complications. Further evaluation on the advantages of re-TIPP over Lichtenstein repair should be conducted in a prospective manner.

Summary: The study compared intraoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) following extraperitoneal CO2 insufflation with the TEP approach and intraperitoneal CO2 insufflation with the TAPP approach. The results showed no significant difference in intraoperative IOP change between the two techniques.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of preoperative prone computed tomography scans in predicting intractable cases of inguinal hernias. The results showed that preoperative prone computed tomography can accurately diagnose hernia types, and there were no differences in hernia type frequencies between different operation time groups. Preoperative prone computed tomography is valuable in predicting intractable cases of inguinal hernias.

Summary: This study focused on the distribution and morphology of the female extraperitoneal urogenital fascia (UGF). It was found that the UGF surrounds the urogenital system, extends from the perinephric region to the pelvis, and is composed of loose connective tissue. The UGF participates in the formation of ligamentous structures in the pelvis and gradually moves into the medial umbilical fold.

Summary: This study aimed to explore whether there is any difference in the surgical outcome and postoperative complications between the preservation and transection of the round ligament of uterus in adult female inguinal hernia patients undergoing TAPP. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in terms of operative time, length of hospital stay, intraoperative bleeding, and occurrence of postoperative complications between the two groups.
