Summary: The theme trends and knowledge structure of multifetal pregnancy reduction (MPR) literature were evaluated using bibliometric analysis, revealing research hotspots and deficiencies. The study found that research on intrauterine treatment of MPR was relatively well developed, while research on sequelae of fetal reduction surgery and applications of MPR in assisted reproductive technologies were lacking.

Summary: Selective abortion has become more common in England and Wales over the past 9 years, with twin to singleton reductions being the most frequent type. The majority of cases occur in the first trimester and are often justified under legal grounds. The most prevalent method used is intracardiac injection of potassium chloride, with the majority of cases performed in women aged 30-39 and of White ethnicity.

Summary: This study found that multifetal pregnancy reduction can significantly improve pregnancy outcomes, including reducing the rates of preterm delivery, low birth weight, and small for gestational age. However, it cannot completely reverse the adverse effects of multiple pregnancies.

Summary: This retrospective study examined the outcomes of all dichorionic twin pregnancies in Denmark and compared the risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes between reduced and nonreduced twins as well as singletons. The findings showed that early fetal reduction can reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes and preterm delivery.

Summary: Selective and spontaneous fetal reduction (SEFR and SPFR) to achieve singleton pregnancies may lead to adverse clinical outcomes, including miscarriage, preterm birth, and low birth weight. Therefore, it is recommended to consider SEFR and SPFR only in multiple pregnancy patients with potential complications, while single embryo transfer (SET) is a more advisable option.

Summary: This study reviewed the outcomes of complicated monochorionic pregnancies after fetoscopic selective feticide with bipolar cord coagulation in an experienced German center. The results showed that selective feticide can be an effective treatment for such pregnancies, increasing the survival rate of the co-twin, but there are potential complications.

Summary: This study evaluated the fetal outcomes and prognostic factors after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in complicated monochorionic multiple pregnancies. The results showed that RFA is a relatively safe procedure with a high success rate, but it still carries certain risks such as mortality, premature membrane rupture, and preterm delivery, which can impact the outcome for the remaining co-twin.

Summary: This study aimed to determine factors that influence the time interval between induction and fetal expulsion in late termination of pregnancy (TOP) and TOP after feticide. It included 913 TOP cases and found that gestational age at induction and previous vaginal delivery were significantly associated with shorter delivery duration. Other factors such as previous cesarean section, feticide before induction, and maternal age had no impact, and maternal BMI showed a non-significant trend.

Summary: This study compares the perinatal outcomes after fetal reduction in complicated monochorionic twin pregnancies using different techniques. The results show a high mortality rate of the co-twins after the procedure, with the lowest mortality rate seen after bipolar cord coagulation. However, high rates of preterm pre-labor rupture of membranes were observed regardless of the technique used.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of feticide in twin pregnancy with fetal anomaly. The results showed that feticide was safe for both mothers and fetuses, and it could prolong the gestational age of dichorionic twins. Selective feticide can serve as an alternative approach for managing twin pregnancies with fetal anomalies after sufficient discussion.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the position of the abnormal fetus on pregnancy complications and outcomes in selective termination of discordant twin pregnancy. The study found that terminating the presenting twin resulted in a higher rate of complications and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and outcomes of fetal intracardiac intraventricular and interventricular septal potassium chloride (KCl) injections during the induced fetal demise process. The study concluded that direct administration of KCl into the interventricular septum induced immediate and permanent fetal cardiac asystole with a 100% success rate.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the fetal survival rate and perinatal outcomes of triplet pregnancies after selective reduction to twin pregnancies vs singleton pregnancies. The results showed that reduction to twin pregnancies had a lower fetal survival rate, lower gestational age at birth, higher risk of preterm birth, and lower birthweight compared to reduction to singleton pregnancies. There were no substantial differences in the rates of early pregnancy loss and neonatal death between reduction to twin pregnancies and reduction to singleton pregnancies.

Summary: This study introduces the New Jersey Maternal Mortality Dashboard (NJMMD), an interactive data visualization tool that provides a comprehensive understanding of the potential relationships between maternal mortality and demographic, social, and public health factors. The tool allows for the identification of trends and patterns in variables associated with maternal mortality and health outcomes, and can inform further analysis and interventions.

Summary: COVID-19 is caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus and has spread worldwide. Pregnant women are at higher risk of severe disease, but vaccination can reduce this risk. Adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes are more common among women infected during pregnancy, but vaccination can protect both mother and baby. Vaccination during pregnancy is safe and can provide antibodies to the fetus as well as the breast milk.

Summary: The objective of this study was to compare the maximum 5-min Apgar score of 10 among different U.S. races and Hispanic ethnicity. A retrospective population-based cohort study was conducted using data from the National Center for Health Statistics. The study found that white babies had the highest proportion of Apgar scores of 10 across all races and ethnicities. The Apgar score introduces bias in people of color, and removing the skin color portion of the score will provide more accuracy and equity when evaluating newborn babies worldwide.
