Summary: The study found that specialist palliative care is integral in oncologic care and its integration into NCCN guidelines varies. Palliative care is mentioned more frequently in solid tumor guidelines than hematologic, and there is a lack of discussion on palliative care in hematologic malignancy guidelines. Improving standardization of timely palliative care access across NCCN guidelines is crucial.

Summary: The study found that end-of-life cancer care in the clinical practice of the hospital tended to be aggressive, with a significant proportion of patients receiving anti-cancer treatments close to death. However, the quality of care did not meet the high standards set by the Earle criteria. While more than half of the patients received hospice services before death, in some cases, this care started only shortly before the patients passed away.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the non-inferiority of a stepped palliative care model compared to an early integrated model for improving patients' quality of life. The study is a non-blinded, randomized trial with a target sample size of 510 patients recruited from three cancer centers. The study has been approved by the ethics board and the results will be disseminated through various channels.

Summary: We conducted a 6-month telephone nursing program for persons living with advanced cancer to help them manage symptoms, coordinate care, and plan for future care. Half of the subjects completed the program, a quarter died or enrolled in hospice, 19% were lost to follow-up, and 9% withdrew from the program. White patients and those with fewer symptoms were more likely to withdraw. 83% of all patients completed some advance care planning, and 80% of patients received hospice care prior to death.

Summary: Through a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach, a model for establishing hospice care delivery system for adult cancer patients in Iran was developed. The model highlights the importance of policy making, establishment of care centers, public awareness programs, expert training, strengthening referral processes, clinical guideline formulation, private sector and NGO investment encouragement, and end-of-life care service package development. The proposed model demonstrated moderate feasibility.

Summary: This study found a knowledge gap and moderate attitudes toward hospice care among nurses, and most nurses did not prefer to practice hospice care. Having been trained in hospice care was the main common factor of nurses' knowledge of, attitudes toward, and willingness to practice hospice care in the future, indicating the necessity to provide nurses with more targeted hospice care training.

Summary: In this randomized clinical trial of patients with AML, integrated palliative and oncology care (IPC) led to significant improvements in quality of life, psychological distress, and end-of-life care. Patients receiving IPC were more likely to discuss end-of-life care preferences and less likely to receive chemotherapy near the end of life.
